I think the tradition actually originated as Russian, but is done in Estonia as well. The photo by my friend was actually taken in Riga, Latvia. There may be different variations, but the idea is that the newlyweds put a lock on a bridge and then either throw away the key or keep it in a safe place. The lock symbolizes that their hearts are now locked and can't be undone.
