how can i convert .png images into .ico resources for free? my trial of microangelo expired and i don't want to pay for the full version.
any suggestions?

I think its in stobject.dll

You'll want SnIco Edit. It's a little clunky, but it works.
The icon(s) you want can be found in stobject.dll in your system32 folder. Check Icon Group 230 for the volume icon, and 231 for the muted icon.

****, You Don't Know It? Go And ReName it to: yourname.ico (ignore the "yourname" word).

I use a program called irfanview. it allows you to save pictures as ico files.
