Here at college Miranda doesn't work. Trillian is nice, but, it's hard to make it nearly as minimal as it was possible with Miranda, so I've been using plain old AIM.
I've been reading the forums over at WinT on how to hack AIM, but I'm still having some problems...
Anyone out there willing to help me figure out what I'm doing? :)
i've been hoping someone would ask about this and you'd offer to help ginzo, all your screens with a hacked up AIM are killer. Not to take anything away of course, but it looks like you've got a nicely hacked AIM format, and you just alter it's graphics to suit the rest of the desktop.
I only mention that because it seems like if it's done that way, it'd be an easy thing to teach. Then again, you probably don't want to give away all your secrets.
the thing is, it's not a secret, haha. everything i've learned was from wint's website. so anyone can do it. i will try to help people, i just don't want to give my aimres.dll, buddyui.ocm and icbmui.ocm out.

After running the installer, you will get a pretty basic aim window. I used to spend hours modifying the aim files, and then aim would come out with a new version, which I just had to have, and I started from square one with my modifications. Ad Hack is pretty good with releasing updates so you can use the most current version of aim.
To modify everything else, you can download reshack and open your aimres.dll file. Just browse through there and change anything you want. For example, if you want to remove the eye and %'s buddy list from the top of your aim window, go to Dialog 324 and delete out that part of the window. For more complex mods, like changing the yellow highlight, WinT's site is great for that.
So when you say to delete the dialog 324, does that mean you just delete everything in the 324 folder? or does that mean I delete all the text in the 1033 icon thats filed under the 324 folder?
You do not want to delete everything in dialog 324. I think the fastest way to remove the eye and %'s Buddy List from the aim window is to visually delete the different CONTROL's listed in dialog 324. Resource Hacker should show a visual representation of Dialog 324 when you have it selected. You can go through and delete out each control that represents a piece of the eye. You know which control's these are because they are at the top of the window. When you are done, there should only be 4 CONTROL's left. They are:
You can even copy and past that into Dialog 324 and it should work. I am only positive this will work on the latest version of aim, 5.9.3861 with AIM Ad Hack 4.12, but should work with other version as well.

ok..tried this but I am running windows 98 on an old computer...so typing cmd doesnt work I can access the dos prompt...but when I do and type in whats shown above it tells me "invalid switch - /F" any suggestions?
ahh i can help here... i used to reshack my aim like wint, man i havent communicated wtih him in SOME time wow... anyway, it helps to use an older version that's less 'advanced'. sure you dont have the idiots on their cellular devices show up on yor buddy list but oh well half those idiots cant use their cellulars for Aim anyway, theres a few other small things youll miss out on but oh well... i run AIM+ (for transparency mainly and logging) and have done minor asthetic reshacking.. my aim version is 4.8.2646, wint's tuts are on the money and ftw!

hey Frenchie...i bet your miranda doesnt work because the AIM plug-in that comes with the latest version gave me problems...i actually downloaded an update right from the miranda site that worked perfect, i think i googled 'miranda won't connect to aim' or something along those lines
