i feel like such a dumbass asking this but i've been out of the loop for a while. is pci-e backwards compatible with agp gfx cards? or is it a totally diff kind of connection?
Some motherboards contain both PCI-Express and AGP slots, and I've heard that Albatron either is making or has made an adapter to allow AGP cards to be used in PCI-Express slots.
PCI-Express is expected to replace AGP as the dominant graphics interface.
By the way, since you're the one who suggested the color scheme, see what you think of these:
Are PCI-E and AGP cards different? Yes. Will PCI-E eventually replace AGP? Yes. Is there a significant difference in performance while using a PCI-E card? If there is, I haven't seen it.
PCI-E has already started to replace AGP. Didn't ATI recently announce that their latest AGP card will be their last as they are moving exclusively to PCI-E?
those are looking really nice flint, especially like dawn, yummy!
tab, I'm thinking of upgrading my pc with a new cpu + mobo, but my gfx card is still pretty good so dont want to fork out for another one just because of pci-e :)
ok to put the two into perspective, agp is slow. it runs at a blazing 66mhz compared to the 133mhz of pci-e. as well agp is only able to move 2100 MB/s max, and no more, where as pci-e is able to do 4000 MB/s in parallel mode and 8000 MB/s in serial mode.
i wasnt asking which is better, i know pci-e is much better than pci, i was asking if it was backwards compatible, so i dont have to fork out for a new graphics card when i upgrade!
