I can see that there is a resemblance, but with a VS that minimal, you can't be picky about rips. I mean, ok, given it does look a lot like yours, but when you do something that minimal you are going to get lookalikes. The only original idea he really copied was the colored bars at teh top of the windows. He has different start button and different close/minimize/maximize buttons, and there aren't any other distinguishing parts of a VS. It's just another really minimal VS, i think it's probably coincidence.
I don't think that's close enough to be a rip. Themes that minimal all consist of a lot of solid colors, flat taskbars, and the like. Both of those themes are closer to Windows classic than anything else.
You know normally I don't wade in on this, but once and a while I'll jump into things knee deep.
Static- I checked out both screenshots, and you know what they're fairly different. differnt colors, different fonts.
To make things interesting is that you said "go ahead kiddies mod away, but give me props when you release". You seem pissed that you have no props come your way, but wait, he hasn't released the vs yet and you slamed him on his thread posting your own vs.
Now personally I think his vs is much cleaner and easier on the eyes than yours is, but hey thats just my 0.02$.
Im gonna have to say the design is so basic and plain that its just a coincidence that they looks similar. I mean hell, if someone said "Hey frosted make a super simple visual style mockup", mine would probably end up looking just like his too. The skins just lack so much detail that you really cant gripe about it. Im sure you can find something similar to yours somewhere that was made before you made yours.
Saying that's a rip of your work is like saying your work is a rip of the windows 98 taskbar with the oldschool "flat mod". As everyone else has said, the design is so spartan that it's hard to fully distinguish any theme of that type of styling from another, let alone claiming that one work is a "rip".
Dude, it's not even a MOD of yours. It's a modification of dobee's "OS Minimal" VS, as it pretty clearly states in the thread title. Also, OS Minimal was released months before yours.
he also says its a mod of dobees, but i agree with frosted flames, you shouldnt even make a big deal of it bc its such a simple scheme. if he wanted to he could have said it wasnt a mod of yours and just dobee's, would you still argue that its a rip then? plus as far as i know dobee doesnt seem to be freaking out bc you 'copied' his vs.

and yes i would still argue .. when you put that much time into a msstyle you can tell if it was yours or not .. take the time to create your own VS and maybe you would understand
Considering the circumstances, you don't have a leg to stand on here. He tried to contact you, you gave no response, whether or not you ever actually recieved the message, he still got no response in return. He is merely showing his own work in progress, not actually releasing the visual style. You mention in the designer notes of your work that people should feel free to modify and release the work, with only mentioning credits on ports of your visual style. It is also a generic setup that is a blend of two different visual styles, where the reasons you are getting up in arms are highly debatable. Yes, yes, we know that he admits it is a modification of your visual style. There is your credit for you.
Nonetheless, you went about this in a very brash manner. It's rather caustic to tell someone that the work they put into something is "ruining" an ideal that isn't his own (or he wouldn't have modified the skin in the first place). Anyways, let's let this thread die, because it's got potential to enter a shit slinging arena soon enough.
I don't know if you want to go that far considering a few weeks ago you urged me to release my own skins despite the fact that I had no permission from people for the skins I modded rather than fully finished into its own skin.
