I'm assuming it's a mouse you've plugged in to a port. Since the computer works otherwise, it could be an i/o problem with the port or the mouse. The first thing I'd do, aside from making sure no pins are bent on the mouse (assuming it's a ps/2 mouse), and make sure the port on the PC is clean and debris free. Another thing to try, would be to test a different, known-working mouse.

(no, i'm not emailing you)

"dont have another mouse."

If you want to troubleshoot your sytem properly, you should probably get a mouse and plug it in. I heard they sell them in stores.

If you are having hardware problems...you might want to try reinstalling your device driver. If you don't know how to do this...there is a really easy "Help and Support" section in Windows XP for troubleshooting hardware problems. They might suggest something there that you haven't already thought of.

seeing how you have been overlaying files on the hard drive, you could have bad sectors.

try using windows error checking (my computer -> right click C: -> properties -> tools tab -> error checking)

try not to move the laptop too much when in operation as the needles can scratch and damage the Hard disk platters.
