I recently got the game and about three days after begining to play I started getting this crazy bug.
It seemed like the stairs in every map were loading the wrong image or something and certain objects (usually my gun) were going invisible for a second and then they came back.
It's not that it really affects my game except for sometimes objects like barrels disappear and I can see the guy hiding behind it. Anyone know anything about this?

you're best bet would be to search the Steam forums and see if anyone else is having the same issues. you would probably get a better answer there than you would on a desktop customization site anyway.
Hmmmm, well have edited you config.cfg file? Try reinstalling Source. Like uninstall it and let it update over night. Source is an amazing game, you in a clan?
legal or not, it gives him an unfair advanatage, and therefore could be considered cheating, which could get him banned from steam :/ and believe me when they ban you, they really ban you, you can't play any steam apps, so your valve games are pretty much useless.
it sounds like a graphics card issue. state which card you have, example: Ge-Force 6800 GT 256MB or ATI Radeon X1800 XT 512MB. Tell us what card you have, because if it is an older model, it may be that it is struggling to render the game, accounting for the disappearing barrels. I know that the draw distance for objects in directX7 is crappy, so that could also be the reason (and im talking directx hardware level, not software, so updating to 9.0c would do nothing to fix it)
also, if you own an nvidia graphics card, it could be the drivers. nvidia drivers are know to lack and can be really glitchy or buggy. i would know, i own an nvidia 6800 ultra, and i couldnt even install the latest drivers, when i would boot up, i would get artifacts all over my screen, i eventually had to revert all the way back to 61.77 which sucked. it seems like many nvidia users had the same problem, but ive never been able to find a fix for it.
The graphics card is pretty new, I bought it to play EQ2, I'm struggling finding a link to download divx 9, if anyone has one in thier bookmarks or anything and they want to hook me up? and No, I haven't edited config.cfg
if you play source that means you are terrible at 1.6, ive been playing since beta, and source is sort of a disgrace... it is the easiest game since pong.
I wouldn't be able to suggest anything anyone hasn't already suggested, though I'd definitely think the video card driver update would be my first step.
I think I'm in a harsh minority, but I actually like CS: Source. I play it more than I do 1.6 nowadays.
don't much care for CS, i think hl2 dm is way more fun, the grav gun kicks major ass
as for the graphics card, though it may be new, its performance isn't the greatest ever, then again, the game's engine was built for the 9xxx series of ATi cards, so you can rule out the card being the problem. its most likely the drivers
If your card is powered by ATi, you really shouldn't be having this problem because to tell you the truth hidden down inside of the Source Engine there is some code that prevents nVidia graphics cards from performing at their top performance. I've experienced this for myself seeing how on a certain CS map I can look down at the water w/ my nVidia GeForce 6600 GT and my FPS just goes wack. My friend on the otherhand has a ATi Radeon 9800 Pro and he looks at the water and gets the correct FPS which I should be getting. Since your graphics card is an off-brand even though it may say that it is powered by ATi, there might be something conflicting w/ the code in the engine which is causing your game to go all wack.
Now when I had my nVidia GeForce 5700 Ultra, I remember having the issue about the barrels being invisible until you walk up on them, but several people have that issue simply because of their graphics card. At this point, I don't know anything that can fix that problem, but to change your settings to a higher setting for your graphics performance. I hope this helps, BTW 1.6 totally dominates Source due to the skill levels required to be good at 1.6.
