computer help?

Okay, I got a new computer for christmas (yay) and I want to connect it to my cable modem (screw my old computer). The computer has a built in ethernet card and the drivers are installed for that, I connected the my computer to the cable modem and nothing works. so, any help?

i love how people say 'nothing works'.
this implies to me that your arms fell off, you lost control of your limbs and ended up drooling on the floor while the computer and screen burst into flames
you need to plug the computer into the modem. turn the modem off for a good few minutes, turn it back on, run "ipconfig /renew" then "ipconfig /all" and if it doesnt work post what the second command outputted

here are the important factors.. first what OS are you running, and second do you have any firewall software running in the background.

another thing... i know here the Cable modems are matched to the mac address of the NIC card... if thats the case you either need to user the NIC from your old computer OR contact your isp and give em' the MAC of your new NIC and get them to link you modem to your nics MAC

... thanks for your help, I finally got in contact w/ att and found out the onboard nic card isn't compatable w/ them, so, i'm taking the one out of my old computer, and putting it into my new computer, so that works now =)
