LOSI is still under active development. Please help Tobbe (Lead developer) with whatever you can (any old fool can install it and report back whats wrong!) http://dev.litestep.com/projects/losi/
OTS3 is available for download Something wrong? Something missing? Something a little too much? Report it at ls-themes.org http://www.ls-themes.org/index.php?cat=article&show=ots3
GS is pretty much done. If you want to suggest something post it here: http://www.lsdev.org/forum_viewtopic.php?10.421.0 http://dev.litestep.com/projects/OTS3%20Projects/wiki/Global Schemes
Litestep 2k6 is getting closer and closer to a release so if everyone puts a little effort in now, when it really does count, then we will get a nice, up-to-date, flashy installer out of it :]

Ya, can't wait for winxp to have a smaller footprint, too. Then I'll upgrade from win95.

nitzua: smaller foot print than LS? The only thing stopping LS from having the smallest feet are your minimal tendencies...
xcal: lol!

i'm not bashing LS here guys, dont get all riled up. its a great app, very tweakable, and i have all the capability in the world to run it.

What did you mean by "footprint" exactly? like RAM or HDD usage? or something else?

that is what i meant fractal...admittedly, i havent tried running LS since i got another 512mb of ram, but before that, it lagged my machine a little bit...the lag wasnt bad, and it was definetly a fitting trade off for the usefulness of the program...i guess what i was saying is that i'll probably give it another shot when this latest build is released, and maybe even continue to use it...

it's typically lighter than explorer, nitzua.

A very stable core build has been released some time ago.
And it really just depends on what theme your running.

Litestep has a teeny tiny footprint. It's themes that really define how it runs on your system. If you run a theme with tons of elements, images, and alpha transparencies, that will give you a bigger 'footprint.'

its been awhile since i last ran ls, but i'm pretty sure i used a fairly complex theme...maybe this was the cause for the afformentioned footprint.

No, not maybe; that's exactly why you saw Litestep eat up all the resources it did-
You asked it to.
Complex, flashy, image-heavy themes equate to more resources used. Period.

I'd like to see a theme designed to use as little memory as possible, just to see how low it could go.
Custome modules would be nifty too, but a lot of possibly pointly work.
---- Boo...

Just loading Litestep.exe would be the smallest theme :D (use the ctrl + alt + F1 menu to run stuff)
which is using 2,552 K private bytes on my system :)
(smaller than the explorer.exe filemanager window I have open :o)

Just plain desktop/hotkey/xpopup/xtray (sans bitmaps) is 13 megs of RAM and 8 swap over here though. Memory footprint has definitely grown in time. On the other hand, the total CPU time on this six year old machine is a mere ten seconds.
Or in other words, if you see lag whilst 'Stepping, there's probably something quite wrong with your machine or you're using a very heavy theme.
Anyhow, yay!

If you wanted to make a theme that uses the least amount of resources possible and still retains it's usefulness. Using xpopup, xlabel, and xtray without using any images is the best way to go, that's what I'm doing right now. It leaves plenty of room on the desktop for me to have windows open and for me to run a lot of other applications without the theme slowing down.
I'm actually considering taking the theme I'm working with right now and seeing how far I can take it, in terms of stylishness and functionality without using any images, and then releasing it.

Last time I tried you couldn't. Or at least, not in the way you can do in LiteStep. It's very easy to configure though and I love those toggles in the popup menus.
