iso: new mouse
|
so yeah, i'm looking to get a new mouse to replace my 5-year old ms optical 5-button. i looked at the logitech mx revolution but $100 is still a bit much for a mouse imo. if anyone has a kickass mouse that they love, any suggestions would be appreciated (laser only, corded or wireless, and less than $75). thanks.

I still rock one of the old microsoft intellimouse joints. It's been working swell for me over the years but I'm sure they have a laser version out now so give it a look.

yeah, sorry i wasn't more specific about what i was going to use my mouse for, but i don't really play games all that much - i just want a badass mouse. i heard that some logitech mice have a tendency to lose their finish quickly even with normal use, has anyone noticed this mouse? thanks again for everyone's input, i'll post a short review of whatever mouse i get probably in a week or so for whoever's interested.

IntelliMouse Explorer USB (1st Gen).
Cost me $100 years and years ago. Was one of the first optical mice around at the time. Have had to crack it open & cut the wires back some then resolder them due to fraying (too many LAN parties will do that to a corded mouse). The finish got rubbed off quite badly due to age as well, but after a good sanding down & a fresh coat of rubberized black bumper paint (clearcoat for the non-black parts), she's good as new. Still rockin' it:

I won't buy another mouse until this one completely fails on me, or gets hit by lightning... :D

mx 510 (My old mouse) never lost any finish. still as red as it was on day one. only reason i switched is because i gave it to a friend.
again though, the mx518 is a brilliant buy. i'd recommend it.
the only reason I'd have a problem with the microsoft one is that its uniform for both hands. unless you're a lefty of course.
i used another Razer mouse (which is the maker of the microsoft mouse you linked) and couldnt stand that it was completely flat, and it felt kinda unnatural to hold your hand like that for long periods of time. im sure you could get used to it either way though

I use a Microsoft Wireless Optical Mouse 2.0. It has never failed me in the 3 or 4 years that I have been using it. Plus, the finish on it (Kinda brushed carbon.) had never worn out.

I'm still using my beloved Logitech DiNovo's Mx900 bluetooth optical and it's amazingly fast and precise, perfect for per pixel editing!
