Also, in regards to the new close buttons on each tab:
* Click the about:config button (if about:config extension is installed) or open a new tab and type about:config in the address bar and press enter * In the filter field type browser.tabs.closeButtons * Double-click on the entry and enter the corresponding number below: 0 ~ Display a close button on the active tab only 1 ~ Display a close button on each tab (default) 2 ~ Don’t display any close buttons 3 ~ Display a single close button at the end of the tab bar (Firefox 1.x behavior) * Click OK * Close the about:config editor or tab
Actually I found how to remove the "go" button, too. Its actually extremely simple.
1. Open a new tab and type about:config in the address bar OR if you are using the about:config extension, click the about:config button 2. In the filter box type (or paste) browser.urlbar.hideGoButton 3. The default settings is FALSE – double click anywhere on the entry to change it to TRUE 4. Changes are effective immediately
Xyphur: I don't even use the search box. :P I use a much more efficient method of searching.
1. Go to google.com or whatever 2. Right click the search box and click "Add a keyword for this search..." 3. Name it whatever you want, and the keyword will be whatever you want. 4. To use, type "YOUKEYWORD searchterm" in the addressbar.
i actually noticed that in firefox 2.0 the address bar actually works as a search bar for most cases...like say you type a sentence in the address bar it returns results in a google search
the userChrome.css edit UnsightlyEvil mentioned above made the "list all tabs" button disappear, but it left a gap where it used to be. any solution to this?
@FF It definitely works, are you sure you are doing it correctly?
You should create a userChrome.css (or rename the example) in the profiles//*//chrome directory, and just copy and paste that in to the document. Be sure to restart Firefox.
the userchrome.css edit worked fine for me. Did anyone got rid of the magnifying lens in the search field instead? It's quite annoying to me... Moreover, in FF1.5 when clicking on the loading animation above the search box redirected you to mozilla web site while now it seems to do nothing!
anyone know of a good video extractor? something like this https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/2390/ (not using that one because it "collects information about you")
I am having trouble changing settings in Firefox 2.0 so that the Tab bar does not always appear even when only one tab is open. I know there is a setting in Tools-Options-Tabs where you can uncheck "Always Show the Tab Bar" and I *do* uncheck it, but it's only good for my current browser session. (That is, as soon as I restart FF, I get the tab bar showing again.) Going to about:config and messing with TabBar settings doesn't seem to help either. Anybody have any ideas on this, or am I the only one encountering this bug?
While I thought this was kind of a cute extension, it's not one I need, since I only use FF at home, so I just uninstalled it and everything is fine now...when I uncheck the "Always Show the Tab Bar" box, it stays unchecked now.
I actually once almost got fired for installing it on computers at work, but that's another story (and thankfully, I left that job for a better one earlier this year.)
aww your boss needs to loosen up :D I think my friend installed like counter-strike to every computer in his office. that is.. because the boss plays it too XD and maybe because its a production house / small design company. no project = nothing to do = fragging
I've done most of these hacks to FF and its looking good, one prob i'm having and had it with the last version off FF also is when i close FF and load again it will go back to it's deafult state with the serachbar and them icons and i removed them all before i closed FF. Any ideas folks??
Link to the theme called "winestripe". It's basically the FF1.5 theme that mimics your visual style's tabs instead of those stupid ones mozilla put in.
