Foobar2000 vs. Winamp. Preference
|
I use Winamp currently as it allows me to play most media types through it - video, music etc. It also supports a host of amazing add-ons (and some uber shit ones... lol).
BUT... I notice that almost ever profile I've looked at quotes Foobar2000 as their default player of choice. Why is this?
As far as I know Foobar cannot deal with video (but instead pretty much ever audio codec under the sun). Is this correct, or is there an add-on somewhere for video?
:D

I don't think there is a video add-on. But the fact why Foobar is so popular is the customizability (LOL) of it's playlist, winamp doesn't have this. And if you use version 0.8.3 you can even make Winamp like controls for it with foo_looks. At least, this is why i use it =)
For video i can really recommend VLC.

I was a winamp user before I got to foobar. And I agree with aakio, you can theoretically design your whole own interface. But you're required to read the wikis and tutorials and such, so it takes some time until you get along with foobar.

Yep I'm still using 0.8.3 just for foo_looks since there isn't a newer version for the 0.9 upwards.

i used to be a longtime winamp user before i switched to foobar. originally, i swapped to foobar because winamp was pretty clunky for me. also, since i LOVE amarok, foobar filled that bill as well

l've tried a little foobar, but i've found it very hard to customize (about time, i mean)... i haven't seen auto-install plugins for foo.
one thing i really liked 'bout foobar is that it's gapless by default, and also loads much faster than winamp

mulitple playlists and yeah foobar can handle my defualt playlist with about 15000 tracks which winamp couldnt oh and yeah multiple playlists also the customizability is awesome, I don't need buttons or anything, just a nice looking playlist that I can easily match my setup (Hotkeys FTW) btw did I manage that I like to have multiple playlists
also wasnt the foobar inventor once a winamp coder?

switched to foobar200 0.8.3 (old, i know), after using winamp for ages ,when justin left nullsoft. foobar was not owned by aol and had most of the features builtin, that required plugins in winamp. it's very ugly and takes one to go through 5000 options to change that, hence i use the default look (it resides in my systray all day anyway). another reason to use foobar (and the reason for still using 0.8.3) is the capability to watch and create avs presets, which is my main reason for being on custo. occasionally use itunes (like at work and for music bought on itms) which has the best search feature. i hope the baconwrap for foobar will be updated, as i havn't used any 0.9.x built yet.

Foobar you don't need to "skin" it follows the VS or whatever you're using. It's faster and lighter, and has loads of custo ability. Mad is proof of that, he made a foobar that looked just like Winamp. Basically Foobar is all powerful, it's the Litestep or media players.
And that's why I use it. ;D

I use Foobar now as well. At the moment I know how to do the basic customization such as playlist colours but I need to get a hang of foo_looks and winamp controls

Garsh! I didn't notice the typo. GRRR. I was in a rush and didn't double check my post.
Skry I find it to be ironic you're such a big Winamp skinner but use Foobar for regular use.

I used Foobar.
As much the Winamp how much the Foobar is good Players. What I find superior in the Foobar is the clean visual, equalization and also stability.
The Winamp was very good in the version 2.9x now with the new version very is weighed and it does not please me nothing why as a player can so be weighed?
The ideal for I is the functionality in first!

Obviously, I find it is quicker to load and more lightweight. The only problem is configuration is a bit hard.
