Has anyone talked to WinT lately? I talked to red but we haven't had any luck. If you know how to contact him can you please give me a PM?

Man, I'd like to know too. Last I talked to him was a month ago through a PM on here. He mentioned in passing that real life was bad. And that's about all I know. =/

How? He's been inactive for a month. And his comments show he hasn't commented on a sub in at least 4 months.

Oh yeah, those are way older, but still the best. He's moved on to XP since then. I learned a lot from him back on VP.

Hi everyone...

I'm still here :) Checking the site everyday actually, and in fact, am currently working on a screenshot, having to do it in small increments though due to working so much.

I'm just now noticing this post, so thought I should respond. I'm loving the whole EVO thing, really nice work indeed.

I'm finally getting XP to where I want it, though I still crave my 98 almost daily. XP is SO breakable when it comes to all the hacking, which I've been pushing the limits with when I have the time.

I tell ya something nice that I found by accident though...

With a little reg tweaking, you can defeat SP2's file protection to the point that you can hack any DLL file, save it, and the changes are made immediately. Most files deal with this so nicely, that you don't even have to re-start or log-off, though some, such as shell32, require a re-boot.

This is a really nice feature though, cause you don't have to use Replacer, or the recovery console, etc... to replace files. Makes life much easier :)

I can say this much too...

I thought I was going to love visual styles, but, fell out of love with them pretty quick, lol.

I'm back with BBLean 1.16, the original, but at least now, I can use cleartype on my fonts, which gives a much nicer look to everything.

So, anyway, glad to see some folks were curious as to my whereabouts, and I will be posting a shot very soon, and hopefully, it will be my best yet, as I think it is already, and it's not quite done :)

Oh, one other thing, if the person (s) responsible for my old desk's being featured here recently just happens to read this post, wanted to say thanks to you :)

Welp, it's time to get ready for work, will return tonight, so take care everyone, and will talk to you later.

Wiiiiiinttttt, it's nice to see ya! I look forward to your mystical hacking work with XP, I personally think XP turned out to be perfectly hackable. Vista sucks. >_< ='(
Actually I think they've killed the ability to modify files.

*Continues to wait in anticipation of your screen shot.*

I know it will be stunning.

NIce to see you folks too :)

It will be a bit longer on my screenshot however, as I REALLY mucked XP up last night while trying one of my "extravagant" hacks, lol. It just BROKE, and broke beyond repair.

I"m anti all the background stuff, so no system restore to rely on, which means, I'm back at the beginning. Luckily though, I have backups of everything, and I'm almost back up and running at full speed. Just have re-apply all working hacks and the overall theme again, hehe :)

It won't be long though. Take care until next time :)

Oh man, that sucks. But it's good you back up, sounds like you got it fixed in less time it'd take for system restore to maybe work.

We shall be patiently waiting for the submission! And I myself am gonna be curious of the stats of your system and such. All that extra tidbit info. I wanna know how small you got your XP install!

And you take care too. I know we all miss ya. =)

Hi WinT, I am new here but I have seen your great screenshots.

Over the last few months people have been discussing how 'customizing is dead'. Im sure you can bring back the originality in screenshots since you are the best at that kind of stuff.

Looking forward to seeing that screenshot.

AlbinoAsian...

You know I never give up my friend, lol, just not gonna happen. Good to see you my friend, really is :)

Pyro...

You wouldn't believe what I've done with XP performance wise, in fact... performance tweaking is the main reason it's been so long since I've posted. I've studied every XP tweaking guide I can find, and studied them well too :)

The initial, custom, OEM installation size is 1.2 gig's. That's going as minimal as possible via the options during OEM installation.

After just the basic performance tweaking on the Windows folder alone, I"m damn near to the size of my original Win 98 folder size, due to removing all that damn network crap. I mean, I'm running XP HOME edition, I don't NEED networking ya know? lol... it's ridiculous as to how much crap you have to remove, really is, but it's worth it in the end.

Services are to a minimum, as only SIX services are running at boot, all of which are absolutely required. You turn just one of these six services off, XP breaks, instantly, won't even boot up... so, 6 ain't bad considering what you start off with ya know? :)

Anyway, sometime soon, I'll run through all of my performance tweaks for you, maybe you can use them. It turned my system into a super system.

adz_619...

Thanks so much for your vote of confidence, and I certainly do hope to contribute once again to this great community, and hopefully, something new will spawn once again, I hope anyway :)

Take care everyone, talk to you all tommorrow, must go to bed now, work is calling sooner than I wish :( :)

Wow. Dang it! You use your amazing powers on XP after mine dies and I'm forced to use Vista. *Shudders*

But soon, I WILL return to XP, I will eventually get my own computer, and I will install XP on it. And I'll definitely want your expertise on it. =)

I know you will indeed stun us all, with what you did on 98 I cannot fathom whats possible for you on XP. But yeah I've got to go to bed too, I look forward to seeing ya tomorrow/more often. :D

AlbinoAsian: I've used nLite quite a bit and it does a lot in the area of removing the bloat from XP. You can remove all the file protection and crap too. Get rid of networking, services, etc.

WinT, can't wait to see some of your preformance tweaks along with your famous themeing. Putting any of it on your VP section? That's been dead for how long now?
