Litestep: No Desktop icons after uninstallation

There is nothing much to see, Litestep wallpaper and Explorer Start menu, nothing more.

I had the same problem. What you need to do is the following:


1.Locate your internet browser
1.Download Litestep again
2. In the litestep directory or on the desktop find the explorer shell icon (set shell as explorer)
3.Double click it
4.done!!

The reason you are stuck is because you uninstalled without setting your shell back to anything!

I have set explorer as shell. That is the problem. I do everything by The Book, but something is wrong with Litestep or with themes. Can themes make mistake like this?

There is no right click. Nothing happend when I click on RMB. There is no menu.

Are you sure that you have explorer set as shell properly.
If you have then un-install litestep

run the task manager (ctrl + shift + esc) and see if explorer is running.

If its not, you need to set it as shell properly.

I suggest installing litestep, reboot, set explorer as shell, reboot. uninstall litestep, reboot.

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\IniFileMapping\system.ini\boot\

and

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon\

just the "shell" strings in each would be great thanks ;)

Litestep messes with the registry strings. If you have a backup then you can replace the .reg files with originals.

1) USR:Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon

2) C:\WINDOWS\explorer.exe

You won't believe me, but I have try everything, everything. The last what I've done, I installed Smart Desktop, and my icons are back, but If I click on Show Desktop, icons desapear. One more click on Show Desktop and icons are back. That's OK, but each time I reset my PC, I need to install Smart Desktop...

I didn't make any backup of registry...

install another shell like bblean and switch to explorershell

I have try: bblean, Bluebox, BLUEBERRY 3D-DESKTOP, DesktopLite, ROS Explorer...

Maybe tell us more about your system, OS, modifications etc

Try searching the registry for any strings related to litestep, once youve found them delete them

Also try popping your hard disk into anothe pc and replace the shell32.dll file.

I've try with Desktop Process, No Desktop, No Active Desktop... Nothing didn't help!

I think, I need to reinstall my system, but am sorry, this installation is almost 3 years old! And work perfectly until Litestep. F**k it, I should restart my pc and boot Linux, if I wanna something diferent, but no, I wanna Litestep and look what I have now...

P.S. I'm not mad on Litestep authors, I'm just mad on myself...

...boot into save mode and switch back to a date before you installed litestep...don't reinstall cause of this

use ProceXP or Spy++ to figure out what window your desktop belongs to.

I don't have nothing suspicious in procesess. I have try some windows analyser and he show me something interesting, I will post images later.

I have WinXP with SP2.

After installing SmartDeskop, the icons are back, but the problem is Show Desktop, after click, icons desapear again. When icons are on desktop, Window Analyser has detected three things:

Spy++ show me that desktop process is running but is hidden and can't be highlighted. What hide him, I really dont know...

This will stay until next system reinstall. System restore I've disabled, because this is an old pc and have only 37GB HDD, so each byte is very important...

next solution:
i have programms running like Tune Up Utilities and so on; i hope you know what i mean

these progs clean up my registry in the background and my harddrives and delete "useless" files , but they also influence correct Working with Shell Replacements
so you should stop or deinstall progs like that

1)Start Regedit
2)Go to HKey_Current_User \ Software\ Microsoft \Windows \ Current Version \ Policies \ Explorer
3)Check the right panel for DWORD value "NoDesktop"
4)Give it a value of 0, or delete it
5)Reboot the computer
