Vista readyness

So i want to make a final switch to Windows Vista this weekend. I know visual styles don't work yet, which is too bad because i believe Vista supports alphablending, but i want to run classic anyway as i will be working a lot. Does anyone have any experience with customizing it yet, 3dcc, reshacking, those kinda things. I believe Litestep works on it too?

I'm slightly interested in vista for the directx10...
other than that I'll stick to XP.

There are a few themes for Vista, but most are just Aero mods. You can use existing XP visual styles with WindowBlinds on Vista.

With what Island Dog says, you can run them on there, but they aren't perfect. I applied Mire V2 to it, and there was alot of things that were totally unreconizable. Also, you will need to find a way to remove the bar above explorer, or change the color seperately. I applied a Mac vs, and everything changed and what not, except that bar, and some smaller things. I haven't messed with 3dcc, or litestep yet. Another good thing is that in a little bit, they'll come out with a new windowblinds which will support Vista better, with the stylebuilder and what not. So, until then I think i'll stick with the default windows. But, yea, ask Pyro.

You can use 3DCC, and Displayset with classic as well as ShellWM and BBLeanSkin. Running Litestep is possible, but some times it can screw up the transparency, and you need to install it by a different hidden registry entry.

The logon sucks, the ctrl+alt+del is even worse, and every thing is completely unhackable. BESIDES the UAC, which in my case I can't turn off because when I did every thing broke and wouldn't work.

But if you're just one user you might have an easier time. And if you need any help or have any questions feel free to ask me.

...You switched?! As in no more XP?! WHAT ARE YOU NUTS?!?!?!?! ...Err, I meant. And why would you do this?

Bill can just go shove Vista up ... nevermind. 'Twas just trying to aid Mr. Pepjin with his choice to switch to Vista. ;)

I recently purchased a laptop, preloaded with vista. It sucks so badly. I usually just use litestep and that hides most of the garbage. Sony would not put xp on it.

Hmm i don't think it sucks, i think there are some good upgrades and the default ui is better too, for the common user. It's just new, when XP came out it was the same. I hope we'll found out how to hack and mod it soon, but for now i'm very fond just running classic with my favourite icons.
