I already thought of a name for the VS that I will be working on. I will call it "Biome" or "Zones" or something like that. In coordination with the base concept, I will attempt to make multiple color variations based on different biomes under the terrestrial (tundra, grassland, tropical rain, taiga, desert, montane) and aquatic (coral reef, benthic, littoral) classifications. Hence the name. Does any one have a better idea of what to call it?
@thinker - for your substyle names, i'd go with the more "extravagant" names like taiga and benthic, than using duller ones such as grassland or desert (they sound too generic) Anyone know better sounding replacements for those two biomes?
Well, savannas are more like dried out grasslands, so if you were going for something greener, go with prairie. For desert, I'd go with Xeric (I learned a new word :) I think steppes are actually more like grasslands. The dictionary says "semiarid grass-covered plain". Maybe you should base things on the smaller biome groups rather than the ambiguous, broad ones like grassland.
All too true. The only reason I suggested steppes as a viable choice is because many (but not all) steppes are desert-like in the sense that they have: Low Precipitation (across the board) Little Vegatation (which doesn't apply to all, but most) Regardless, I think I will agree with Xeric choice. It is much more fitting. And I think that I will add Savanna and Praire to my substyle themes.
So, Tundra (Blue-Dark Blue) Benthic (Black - Dark Grey - Dark Brown) Praire (Greens) Reef (Light Blue - Blue) Xeric (Red? - Orange? - Brown?) Savanna (Brownish Yellow - Brown) Taiga (Brown - Dark Green) And these colors will be coordinated with the base concept and colors, of course.
As for the various colour schemes, those are cool Thinker. Imrik is working with 4 schemes right now so you'll definitely want to see that before making any final plans. I'm going to make a new thread with a status update right now.
The names/colors sound good, thinker. Sorry about the endless whining ;), but there should be some more white in Tundra, and I'd go with the warm colors for Xeric.
I actually like the endless whining, it is extremely helpful and enlightening =). I somehow had forgotten about the white for Tundra and will add some in. I had figured warm, which are hot =), colors for Xeric.
Of course, I won't be able to do anything about the VS until Imrik finishes the concept next week. So I will only do the schemes if Imrik and his concept permit me to do so. So these are certainly not final in any way.
Any other suggestions or ideas (since all we can do is speculate at this point)?
