I never thought i will buy any Apple product. Now i have more than one of them.
The touch version is innovative. I own a U10 for quite some time and thought it had a good concept. But with this user interface it has no chance to compete. I will wait some months because i recommed myself to never ever buy an Apple product again when it just came out. I had to wait 3 weeks for my MacBook. And now i am waiting over 3 weeks for my iMac to ship.
If there will be a way to use Skype on this iPod it´s the perfect mobile device i would choose. Since i never had a mobile phone this would be the perfect compromise.
I don't see what's so bad about the iPod Touch, frankly. Some people don't have much a use for a phone but would still like the various other features it offers. To own a product centered around being a phone only to not use it for that purpose seems like a waste to me. So long as the iPod Touch is lower in price, I'm all for it.
I won't be getting one though, as the only time I ever use an iPod is for playing music on the bus. So, probably an iPod Classic for me.
I agree with asuraci, as long as it isn't priced the same as an iphone, i don't see why not.
Pyro, it's not fair to say "the new ipod touch has no point" its an ipod. Its point is to play music, videos, etc and have touch controls.
That doesn't mean I want one, I don't. Personally I think it, as well as the iphone, are both ugly and excessive.
I watched the keynote yesterday and laughed my ass off when Jobs announced the Starbucks partnership. Why? Ok, picture this:
Person goes to starbucks. Person gets a cup of coffee and REMAINS AT STARBUCKS. Person then, for whatever reason, is actually listening to the music playing at starbucks (This is especially ridiculous because if the person has an ipod, why would they be listening to the music in the store instead? Doesn't that kind of defeat the purpose?) While using thier ipod touch. Person goes "hey, i wonder what that song was?? oh wait! I can look it up on my ipod touch! Joy!!1!" Yeah. Fucking. Right.
I don't know about you, but I have trouble picturing this scenario without bursting into laughter at how incredibly stupid it is. Not just because its ridiculous (and ooooh yeah, it is) but also because it is contradictory to what an ipod is for. Seriously, why would you listen to the music playing in starbucks. THE IPOD IS RIGHT IN FRONT OF YOU. AHHH!
Ok, the other reason this is stupid is because, really, if you are spending enough time at a startbucks that you are downloading the songs being played at said starbucks, you need, NEED, to seriously re-evaluate your life.
But how fancy can you get, why touch controls? What's the point? And I'm quite sure it will be just as expensive.
If/when I get an mp3 player, I'm going with something cheaper that holds just as much music. I'm quite sure my ears aren't sensitive enough to tell the difference in sound quality.
Pyro: UI design is a huge aspect of any hardware. I'd rather use something that wows me than fumble around with all kinds of buttons and clutter.
There's plenty of use in it. Games, photo resizing, navigating web pages, scrolling, just about everything uses the touch controls better than anything else could.
I'm not sure what you mean by "And I'm quite sure it will be just as expensive." As the iPhone?
Huh, I left out the important part of the sentence there ... Okay, so I personally thought it was just fancy un-needed stuff. BUT the actual phone part is only worth $100 now? I've seen more expensive phones that can do less.
Well, no. I mean. I don't know, it seems like $150 less would be a better price difference -- to me. Apple products generally just seem out of my price range. =/
I like the iPod Touch, and for someone who likes the features of the iPhone, but doesn't want or need the phone part, then this is a great alternative.
As and far as Apple using this to become "rich", well isn't that the point of business? They continually update their hardware lines, what really is the problem with that?
I don't know about you guys but when I'm a place like Starbucks, if I'm with other people, I wouldn't put headphones on.
And if I'm alone, I'd still rather listen to the music they play. The jazzy music they play suit my tastes well and I'd rather listen to fresh new stuff I haven't heard than the playlist I've had on rotation on my iPod.
I have a Creative Zen Vision: M myself. I tend to like Creative more because their products are quite decent, and I know all too well 'virus-like' itunes is. Plus macintosh gear, often times, is quite pricey, if not simply because it's a fashionable thing these days.
My only issue with creative is something they've always had problems with...the MP3 player's firmware can do some odd things every now and again.
09wkd, hes not missing the point, you are. I can't understand why you can't understand that some people go to Starbucks to relax, some people even enjoy the type of music that plays there. Some people do things differently than you, crazy I know.
While Wi-Fi iTMS is only Starbucks for now, it won't forever be that way. It wasn't built for them and them alone, come on now.
Imagine going into any number of stores, perhaps ones you think of as being more hip. A Hot Topic for example, and being able to find and download that great new Fallout Boy song on the the fly.
I've never been a huge fan of Apple products, but I'm gonna buy an iPod Touch when i get some money. It looks sexy and you can do a lot of stuff with it.
