iPod?

excess says:

Yep. I'm a sellout. I finally got one.
80GB Black 6th Gen. Classic.

Since I haven't got it yet (getting it on Christmas day. ¬_¬) and I was just wondering how customisable it is...
I'd love to be able to give it some sleeker looks, since the OSX9 look is totally not-me. =P

Anyone got any tips/ideas/whatever?

Currently it is not hackable, none of the newer ipods are, so you should check out the ipodwizard.com wiki to see if and when they do hack it, if at all. IIRC they hadnt even hacked the 5th gen nanos yet.

Damn.
I was hoping there'd surely be some nerds eager to hack their iPods.
Though, I suppose, real nerds get iPhones or Touches... =\

yep, and you could also check out the rockbox custom firmware (http://www.rockbox.org/), maybe they'll port it to the newer ipods in the near future.

And what about syncing software?
I just got Winamp Pro 5.51 or whatever the newest one is, and it says it has iPod support now...
Does that mean I don't need iTunes?
I'm praying it does. : D

Please dont mention that program, it hurts too much. Trying to syncing with that crappy apple prog cost me 6h of my precious lifetime >_< I pray that it actually is the worst program on earth, so i will never have to use anything like it again.
Anyways, get winamp 5.5 and the `ml_ipod` plugin. Winamps buildin support sucks (no album art etc) but ml_ipod works great (with all features) and its a hundred times faster than ... you know.

I'll try that, THC, thanks man, I tried the Winamp inbuilt support and a combination of me and that broke my iPod 3 times within 2 hours of having it. So I resorted to iTunes. Hopefully now I can use that ml_ipod plugin and be rid of iTunes.
One major problem of winamp - Where the hell is the eject function? That's the first way I corrupted it. : D

Close the program and use the "safely remove hardware" thingy in the system tray, depending whether or not you have the systray on your desktop.

Nah, I dunnae have that little Safely Remove Hardware thing. It came up the first time but no longer does for some reason.

Anyway, got that ml_ipod plugin and it seems to do everything iTunes does but better. Thanks THC. =)

I'm sure there's something like that in the control panel.... it'll eventually be found.

Maybe you could right-click on the iPod in My Computer and find something.

Or I could just right-click the iPod icon in the Winamp Media Library and choose 'eject iPod'.

By the way - I got some nice programs for iTunes that got Album art and lyrics for me (and embedded these lyrics in the ID3 tags) - I can get Album art through Winamp obviously, but is it possible/is there a plugin to automatically download lyrics and put it in the ID3 tag so I can look at the lyrics through my iPod?

If that made any sense... : D
