I am really new too all this stuff... But I really want to customize my desktop... I found some really nice wallpapers and now I want some transparent black finish style desktop instead of that boring blue xp thing... (I have only tried to hack the start button on xp and find some alieware themes/skins, but they are boring too now)
I have seen many on this site, but I have no clue how to get it and what I need... Can anybody please give me some 1st 2nd and 3rd list of what to do, which apps I need aso... My PC is powerfull enough for this! Mabye give me some good themes if so....

I recommend a few programs that are able to accompany your needs. At least I and a few others use windowblinds for our skinning needs, it offers alpha blending (correct me if I'm wrong) and Litestep.
"WindowBlinds 5 also supports per-pixel alpha blending allowing for "glass" effects, semi-transparent titlebars/borders, smooth borders. Version 5 adds per-pixel alpha blending."
We use Miranda IM as our instant messenger to keep it minimal and clean.
The combination of litestep and windowblinds make the best programs to skin one's desktop. Hope this helps.
I disagree with DS2D on the best programs, but the idea is the same.
I view customization as an attempt to make a computer work like YOU want it to, rather than making yourself work the way the computer does. This doesn't say a lot for aesthetics, however. I think that aesthetics are extremely important but it comes after functionality. To this end I use msstyles and bbclean-mod, as they are both lightweight and efficient.
