Its just that every other wallpaper seems to b same old rendered shards of crap. what happened to peoples imaginations? Surely people want to evolve! :D
the problem is that people think you just render some shit and it's done. It takes alot of time and details to make those wp's effective. When they're done right, they're often the coolest wp's. Problem is most people do them wrong.
the problem there are just to damn many of them. people do put alot of effort in them, and technically some are good, but why not put the same amount of effort in trying to expand art insted of just going where oh so many have been before? They have talent, and a brain, why not utilise them? :)
.:Its not that ppl have lost imagination. You can't loose imagintaion. You can ignore it and forget it but you can't loose it. Its just the flow of ways that ppl follow when using computer prgrms to create these kind of art. Even with the most expensive well known graphic prgrm out there, it will lack something and that would narrow down the person's what liqachu calls 'imagintaion' level because you are limited to the things you can and cannot do. This is a site for these kind of computer graphic art. Maybe deviant art is more of a website suited for you. I thought of the same thing as you did liqachu. Just letting you know that you're not the only one who've thought of that. My suggestion is the same as miriku, you should lead the way:. (^_^)
well my stuff is different to ne thing i;ve seen on here. Ya im on deviant art too, and i have to say the variety on there is vast, not stuck in 1 style as it seems to b here. People are willing to try new things more there imo. I dont much of my stuff on custo, cos I dont like doing wall size images (pref posters) and Ive found the admins little help (ie telling me how they think my pieces could b better.etc) they also seem to lean too much towards the rendered shards pics. Also on deviant art u dont get nobs rating ur stuff '1' for no just cause :| the people also give u useful feed back :D
i don't think it's a lack of imagination that makes peeps create the same style of work. i believe the reason is that people aren't too accustomed to the graphics programs they're usin'. because of that, everyone looks at the same tutorials to try to learn. i'm hopin' that once people learn how touse their programs better, they will begin to use their imagination more easily in their work. people like shinter, liquisoft, etc. have a great knowledge of the programs they use and that allows them to be very imaginative in their pieces. so once people get a good comprehension of their graphics programs they'll be able to use the creativity and imagination that they have. i know that i for one have some pretty dern cool ideas...but i just don't have the know-how to do them...yet. i beleive the future of this community will have many great and original things spring from it...well, many more!
not strictly true, i mean I am pretty new to the world of digi art, and my stuff is pretty unlike any 1 elses imho. To honest im pretty crap at photoshop.etc
speaking of apps, ne 1 know ne good tutorials for freehand / illustrator? cos i love vector art stuff, so wouldnt mind learning em :)
liqachu, I've probably said all this before but not in the last few months, so here goes:
You and I would like this to be an "art" site, where we could see a wide variety of mind-blowing wps. Instead, most of the wps cover about 0.02% of the possible spectrum. The truth is custo has become more of a software student site, with shards wps as the still lifes that the students submit for grades from teachers rkenshin and miriku. The admins and 90% of the public reviewers give scores entirely on sophistication of software use, and originality is not part of the score. That is how endless variations on the same wp can be submitted and all get 95+ scores. You and I think mistakenly act like we're in an art museum, when we're really wandering through a Graphic Art 101 class. You and I look at something like trajik's ROM wp from a couple days ago and see something with the same old shards and way too much layering and clutter, while the others consider this a great example of sophisticated use of the techniques they've all been working on.
A lot of the artists here are 15 to 20 years old, and could use a little praise in their lives. They see that if they submit a well-designed shard wp, they will get 95+ scores and raves from the admins and loads of others who are working on their own shards wps (and want their own 95+ scores when it's their turn). If they submit something well done but different and original, it's a crap shoot whether the admins will give it its due, let alone the public reviewers. So which would you do? They go for the sure thing. It's human nature.
Yea, I asked the same question as liqachu and started to wonder about things. Question....... Now here`s the thing, I now agree what armadillorex is saying but is that what you (armadillo rex) think is good? With all do respect to the ppl who make these kind of digital wp, originality is gone and people`s mind is dominated by rich figure softwares, ppl wanting higher ratings from Admins and loosing the sense of fun and creativity. Is this ok? You know......just a thought....
ne way, I understand what u mean ArmadilloRedux, but i dont think of it as a museum kinda thing. I wasnt talking about the quality of the work. If you went into a museum and all the pictures where the same wouldnt u get bored walking around? I know i would. I realise that most of the artists are aged between 15 / 20 (i myself fall into this bracket). Tho i aint an art student or anything, I just like trying new things. I was always told variety is the spices of life. so this is what i believe :)
Not that unique there fella, pretty standard graphic art type stuff, the Soviets were tripping on that style AND color scheme back in the twenties,,,,,,,,

liqachu, I used to think of this place as though I was walking through an art museum looking around. And I got to wondering what anyone who isn't a custo shard groupie would think if they went to a museum and wandered through halls and halls of nothing but pictures of shards. And then I pictured a bunch of custo members standing there oohing and aahing while all the sane people hurried their ass out of the place.
But the conclusion I've come to is that my analogy was wrong. This isn't a museum. It's like wandering through an art school when they're learning still lifes this month. And hundreds of students are painting nothing but one still life after another. And someone has bothered to hang every damn one of them up for view.
But if you don't look at it this way, there's no possible way for the ratings here to make any sense. Rating based on technical use of the software instead of what the wp looks like? It's like choosing the best paintings based on their brush strokes rather than their appearance.
armadillo hit the head on the nail.. i'm a victim of the "shards" i guess.... but i'm learning.. as i learn i learn new techniques in image making.. so i can make other styles of wallpapers... i'm THAT new :)
