i just added a StyleXP category to the site, so upload some themes if you have some to share :)
i will also be happy to add any more categories if there is demand, so please suggest any wanted categories in this thread.
and if anyone would like to volunteer to make the little icons for these new skin categories, just let me know on icq or aim: http://users.customize.org/wraybling
Actually, if you used StyleXP lately, its a full blown program now instead of just the patch (although you can download the patch to enable the MSStyles "UXTheme").
Shouldn't all the other sites call it MS Styles too? Or maybe only Custo should. Hmm, *thinks Deskmod, Skinz, VelocityArt, DeviantArt*.
Different site use different titles. Most of them use either msstyles or visual styles.
Frankly, I could care less. My analogy still stands. You could even call them XP skins.
BTW, the only way it's really a full blown program is in that it provides a skin chooser. It's still just a uxtheme patch so that you can use msstyles (or MS visual styles if you prefer).
I guess if I make a program that displays wallpaper I can hope to get a section too with the name of the program for the section rather than it called "Wallpapers".
gee whats the big deal about what to call the name of the section styles xp themes are stored in OR if its a program or not.. Who cares, I just like the easy implementation of the program with my xp and the fact that it is more natural feeling than WB

aafuss, learning to program in VB6 would be a good start. The last time I fired up VB, there was no "skinnable" button. A decent programmer should be able to figure it out, and if not, I don't think that adding skinability should be your top priority. =^)
aafuss, this thread is for suggesting new app categories. please take your questions to another thread, or better yet, try searching on google if you're looking for help guides or tutorials
Like I said, I could care less. It just demonstrates the admins ignorance of XP skinning. I'm glad they weren't around when WinAmp firt came out or else instead of calling things MP3 players we'd be calling them Winamp songs.
gawd im sick of you already.. so what if the admins dont like your prog... i dont like it either and thats why i dont use it, what are you trying to be the MS of skinning schemes.. trying to put WB on every desktop.. gawd man leave it alone its done already

Again, for a CEO of a company, he sure doesn't act like nor present himself like it. Seriously, do you like to come to our website to reticule us when we happen to disagree with YOU? You don't like it when people disagree with you, do you.
I'd feel ashamed if anyone in my company acted the way you do.
I mean, christ ... when somebody says "I don't like your programs your company makes" you get all defensive and start crap about it.
Geez. You really don't like user opinions. I don't think the admins are being immature at all. We just don't agree with you nor your company. And because of that, you have to have a hissy fit about it and say we are immature. Riiiight.
Wraybling told me to post here (where all the powerfull and mighty admins hang out ;-), so...
i made a small, skinneble program (http://x21b.com/mousetr1.php). The program is downloaded 1000's of times, but at present there are almost no skins for it. My question is: Is it possible to have a category for the skins of this program on customize.org
I use stylexp but it is actually just a sweet interface to change MSStyles. The one on DeskMod is called StyleXP as well, we probably should change that. It is rather misleading. Looks like DA is the only one getting that category aptly named thus far.
Naming it Style XP, you name it after an app that only takes control over something MS called an .msstyles file, or, if the whole thing is provided, an (xp) theme. So Brad is right about it being too much honor for a company that asks a lot of money for just theme switching. Yes, hardly a theme made without the (trial) of their (very good) stylebuilder, and they provide the patch, but if we're gonna judge Stardock, take a good look over there too. They're in in for the money, and have pulled some tricks on SD. Understand me right, no SD apps here, I don't always like Brads promotion techniques, but he's right here...
..while I'm talking anyway, I've read most stuff posted here before (other thread), why not just admit Wb is faster, and stating that with the patch and with available themes and/or a month in the trial of the stylebuilder, you'll have something that comes close (runs smooth enough here), but is free ?! My reason to use an .msstyles file, and with this statement, wouldn't we close some debates ? Like, east is east, west is west, and that's it...
Additionally I notice Brad stating in his latest version of the skin primer (which is still a very biased piece, Brad ;), the skinning community got so big, different parts are now playing different roles. So, gotta admit I kinda appreciate the rebellious role Custo is taking, like the attitude. But I would recommend to control it a little. Once one of parties refuses to get angry, just take the reasonable route, well, there's not much left to debate. Feed it, and there's war. Hehe, pffrt, well, whatever, just my little piece of advice for admins here, couldn't help putting those words down :) - but I'm not in like you all, so ignore if required.
Hey guys...new here so pardon me, but I happen to like the catagory name 'StyleXP'. You run Windowblinds to use its skins (and thus the category name), and you run StyleXP to use its skins. It doesn't seem like rocket science to me :) MSSTYLES just doesn't have the nice ring to it and it also reminds me of Microsoft just when I was trying to forget...hehe.. I said the same thing about MSDOS.
To those of us in the know it's not really going to make a difference. To a user that has the uxtheme.dll hack (i've never used this) or a new user it could be confusing. There does seem to be a pretty steady flow of new users as of late.
Just something else to think about...but I like the idea of letting the users decide.
Is there another program that allows you to use .msstyle themes, because Style XP wants too much money for it. If anyone knows of an alternative let me know
