i dont mind that comment, cause well, everyone is free to have their own opinions and all that. Thing is im rating on basis of over 4 years of experience, and dude, ive seen a lot of different stuff. It may take a little more to impress me.
Oh, and if its because i often give low rating cause the file submitted is "art" its simply because custo istn about art, its about customization and design, how to customize your computer the way you want it, thus, the files submitted are rated with that in mind, how well the given file will fit for the "job" it has. for example, how clear and usable a wp is, plus if its original and just good to look at.
well i think the ratings from adamtt, have been somewhat a fair deal, as he has rated most of my work which i have submitted lately, and with most of his commenst i have kinda gone and done more with my next piece and hopefully improved, and like the guy says he's been doing this for 4 years..so i guess he knows whats what and whats not.........ohhhhh by the way adamtt, after ur comments on my wp named inferno-x-treme, u mentioned i did not really grip that fire effect too well and the colours were...well u know...anyway i have submitted my last in that series named Spirits Of Fire...SOOOO waiting for a review from ya...
well, i've noticed he either gives a .75 or a 98 on everything... as far as him being a bad admin, i dunno.. just a VERY different taste from rhenskinsksinsn.... :)
Personally I believe the only people capable of reviewing a piece (wallpapers as they mostly are here) is someone who makes wallpapers themselves regularly, and is damn good at it. Just my piece, that's all.
hm, yeah those first ratings were kind of weird for me to rate, as i was rating more when there were less wps around (around 3800), then giving a rank of #700 wanst that good. Now #700 is almost 90. Ive fixed that now, i was jsut a little confused. Cause you see, admins dont give solid ratings, we give ranks, or the rating system would be a mess.
And matrixmaster, spirit of fire has been reviewed. i think i dished up quite a post there :) And this time, you got the color pretty well. work on the letterboxing though, as i told you.
Haha. I've noticed that none of the reviewers that review walls make any decent ones themselves. I'm just saying it may be helpful if you got a new reviewer who made good walls.
I don't make walls, never did, never will, and it doesn't bother me if Exposed doesn't like it. It gives me some perspective that others here won't be able to provide: 1. Because I don't use the software, I don't get all hot and heavy over software. Using 80 layers doesn't impress me. Doing a really good version of the same shards wp everyone else has done doesn't impress me. To me, rating on those criteria is like going to an art museum and only looking at the brush strokes. I can ignore that shit and focus on the basics: Does it look good? Does it function as a wp? Have I already seen that same wp here? 2. Because I'm not submitting wps, I don't have to kiss ass on reviews in the hopes of getting a good review of my own posts. (In the interest of full disclosure, I did once make a wp in MS Paint that I still use at work--someday when I get PO'd enough, I'll upload it.)
ArmadilloRedux for admin. Really. He's one of the only ones who actually gives a good reviews, and by good I don't mean high ratings. It's dumb that the load around here revolves around a few guys, usually one guy doing all the work for a bit then passing it on. And hey, how about a girl admin!?!?! Vivez sans temps morts!
who gives a shit about ratings . . . if you like your shit than that's all that matters right, if someone else doesn't like it than oh well . . . geez, people bitch so much . . . i shouldn't say anything cause rkenshin got on my nerves for 2 seconds, but then i thought, OH WELL, i'm not running the site, and there's nothin' i'm givin' to it (as in money or something) so just deal with it . . . that's all you really can do you fuckin' babies . . .
ok, this is pretty funny when you look at it. i haven't really paid much attention for about a year now, and when i do finally come back i get to read this at the top of the all topics. nice.
adamtt rates fairly, however you look at it. 3, 4 years ago the amount of submissions was so much lower and the ones that were submitted were good. that's why they were submitted. now, a lot of stuff gets submitted that wouldn't have even been saved then, and this is reflected in his scoring.
if i'm honest my customization prowess is pretty fuckin weak but i'm damn sure i could give a good, balanced, sufficiently corrective review of anything you put in front of me. just cos i'm not the bollox at doing it, doesn't me i don't know about it.
so cut him some slack. he was part of the community before most of you even owned a computer.
and for the record, being a good artist isn't necessarily guaranteeing(?) your ability to be a good admin.
hahaha, monkeyboyz, youre posting here again? hehe, welcome back man!
btw kids, just cause i dont submit gfx here i DO know what im rating. Not only the 4 years of experience help me along, but also the fact i STUDY all this. yes, photoshop is a key program in my education, and so is vitally any other part of media, and design. Note that rkenshin also studies and works in design....
And if you really, really, really, hate me as an admin, i guess it kinda makes me sad..... cause i love this site, and thats why i put up with writing reviews for stuff i've seen over and over and over again, writing every time telling the newbie to keep working or whatever it is.As any other admin here says: Its not like we get paid or something, its cause we love the site
"Am i the only one that thinks AdamTT is the worst reviewer ever?" -- No, you have your little group, but more or less, I think it's funny that you want to pursue such a subject. Seeing as how he's an admin, you're a user, and the majority of people here understand that the admin rating is just another user rating, only a but different. If you don't like AdamTT's reviews, just hope you don't get reviewed by him. Nobody saw me complaining when I got mediocre reviews by the admins, it's because I understand that BITCHING WILL GET YOU NOWHERE!
Fuck 'em, and their law! I made a god out of blood / Not superiority
You know, you can study art and design and still not have a clue. Truly. Being in school just means you or your family have some money and time to expend. I have two years of multimedia\graphic design education, and I still meet\know of guys who locked themselves in their bedroom for 6 months with a stack of books and a computer and emerge gods six months later and blow me away. see: Hank Goldenboy I like to think 50% of good design is who you are in general (talent, drive, intelligence), 25% is solving the problem, 25% is what you've learned, through school or otherwise. Frankly, I've been kind of let down at the quality of education I recieved at the school I went to (Illinios Institute of Art @ Chicago) Most profs or counselors wouldn't recognize my needs (as a returning adult student or individual) or know how. I spent the first two quarters being bored off my ass and spending a wheelbarrow full of money to do so. I learned some, but I think sometimes if I'd taken the locked bedroom route I might be better off.....but now I've started it so I may as well finish. Anyway, what I'm saying is art\design school does not an artist or expert make. It's you, and who you are really.. Most art schools are just thinly cloaked businesses with a definite bottom line, which isn't you, kind of ironic......So to say you're qualified to criticiize people because you went to art\design school or whatever and know better, well, you're wrong. You're qualified to rate\rank because you're an admin, and that's about it. Say whatever when you rate people's work, but don't qualify it because you're in school. Art and design isn't accounting. Some things you just can't learn. You can be trained, but no one knows where that specialness about certain folks comes from, and THAT'S what can make an artist, designer, musician, etc., great.
Going against the grain here, I personally agree that AdamTT lacks critical skills when it comes to reviewing art on this site, mainly WP's. He over praises all the time; usaully giving way to much credit for sloppy, unfinished pieces.
Where did Miriku go?
I miss the harsh reality of that guys reviews, and the usual entertaining contributions he made to the forums.
don't take my word for it....It's just expensive (50k for a bachelor deg.) for the quality I think, and it just felt...vapid to me. But it's my opinion, other people seemed to like it fine. I'm currently trying to decide if I should/can afford? to go back...........They are definitely FOCUSED on your pocketbook (I had to pay 450$ a month while attending)
Well, I currently go to Elgin Community College ... so I finished with my associates next year and will only be at an art school for 1 year to get my bachelors. what a nice deal. =)
Talk to them a lot first if you go there, they'll probably try to make it more like two years for you.....in the meantime, apply like crazy for non paying internships, that's what I'm doing....say you'll run coffee and lick envelopes just to watch and learn for an hour or two everyday. It's a foot in the door........ Vivez sans temps morts!
I already do Graphic Design work at my current job and I already do freelancing. My pinky toe is in the door. =P
But, Elgin has a close art program with the Illinois Institute of Art and I have been at this community college for 3 years (going on 4 now) and I have soaked up just about every art class they have to offer ... and all of them transfer over since my art director has close relations with the school. ... So, she said I would have my bachelers in a year. Yay.
"I already do Graphic Design work at my current job and I already do freelancing. My pinky toe is in the door. =P " I mean where you REALLY want to work. The dream job. Wherever that may be.. I think for me that would actually be in a loose collective of freelancers. bosses suck. jobs suck. :-)
Yea, my current job is quite boring and sucks. All I do is design ads for houses, brochures, etc. Boring work. And I do it on their crappy P2 300 with 64MB of RAM ... try using Photoshop 6 on that baby.
