Well due to recent events on Custo, all I see on the front-page are screenshots. Some people are submitting 1-2 screenshots every day and I see 9 out of 10 things on the front page are screenshots. Maybe a seperate section for screenshots (ss.custmoize.org) or maybe a way to disable screenshots from showing on the front page. Because well, I really cannot do much with a screenshot.I look at the front page now and see 15 things. 13 of those are screenshots. That means someones 3 week winamp project just got pushed off because some guy wants to show off his 3 types of desktops he used mand made in 1 day. ouch. oh well ill prolley get flamed. but oh well. some people need to output anger.. might as well do it to someone you don't even know.
Just because your best admin rating is a 39, you don't have to be pissed at the world. Maybe that's what you could do with a screenshot, take the ideas implemented in the better ones, and put that to work on your own. And if you had any idea what you're talking about, you'll notice that even the submissions near the bottom have been on the front page for at least 2 days. Is that not long enough to check out what's new?
Actually I can see your point Koga. I think something like deskmod has, where there is a seperate box for new screenshots would be cool. I personally like to look at all the new screenshots to get ideas and stuff, but I can also understand why someone would care less about them.
Sw1tched...your makin some awesome screenshots, dont take Koga's post so personal. There's no need to insult him, since he didnt single you out. Plus it looks like a lot of people are enjoying the little competition between you and FrozenChrome (me included)...so just don't worry about it and keep up the good work. :)
After going back and looking at some of the screenshots from you...You do have the right to be mad at Koga, because he has made some shitty comments on your screenshots. But still, you shouldn't worry about it, cuz we enjoy your shots.
seeing these guys screenshots are one of the only reasons I visit everyday.
I've already got TONS of winamp skins and wallpapers and icons and skins for this and skins for that. However, my collection of these has grown greatly from viewing all the SS's :)
What I like seeing are ways to fit all these together. What's wrong with posting a SS every few hours. If you don't want to see it, don't click on it.
My only gripe is that SOME, ok well MOST of the screenshots posted by the same people aren't very different. Different bg and color is about it. The colors they do pick come together surprisingly well, but I would like to see more of the internal changes like folder icons, window view layouts, webviews, explorer hacks ... etc.
Back to only seeing SS links on the main page, I've got my custo bookmark set to display the 30 newest uploads. That way all I see are thumbnails ... makes it real easy to quickly find something that catches my attention.
davis, they are some limiting factors when you are taking a screenshot...the biggest one is space. The last time i tried to show as much as I could you could barely see the wallpaper which is a shame. But I don't understand why people think I slap on a new backround and 5 new icons and I'm done. I recolor everything (even though it may not look it), I go back and change the bitmap files for the left and line webviews in every folder, I color coordinate the folders that I use most...but there's really no way to show this except for that tiny folder space that I TRY to include. You think of a new way to display something, and I'll do it.
i feel that people should be able to choose what they want to see on the front page. not every one wants to see screenshots and they should be able to have that option. this, however is a matter for the site owners and not a reason for people to stop submitting screenshots. If you want to see the latest walls and skins (like I do) then simply click on new uploads(not much effort required there). Personally I don't upload screenshots to get daily screenie or because I'm a glory seeker. I use my screens as method of bringing to attention different wallpapers or icons or skins that may have been missed among the thousands out there

to me, screenshots take in the community and produce something from the community. the point of this community is to SKIN programs for your computer. screenshots take this idea and implement them.. you can get MANY ideas from screenshots.. such as, which winamp skins you should pick up.. which icons you should pick up.. which icons you should put with your winamp skin... the screenshot itself should have reference to that winamp skin that took 3 weeks to make.. therefore, screenshots are just advertisement.. FREE advertisement
I agree with what frozenchrome said. It would be nice to have the option to only see what you want. Right now it just takes one extra step, so I don't think it is a huge deal, but definitely something we'll put on the "to do" list (well, it basically already is).

Out of the 3 people who are complaining about the screenshots (Koga, Plex, Nsomnia) the only things any of them have submitted to this site are SCREENSHOTS!
Quit complaining about the "problem" if you part of the cause of it.
seeing that my two submissions are submitted on : 05-05-02 and 03-19-02 im not sure. that looks like almost 2 months in between each one. Im part o fthe problem because i submitted a few screenshots every 2 months or so? get real buddy. I did not say it was a problem. i said that having a way to disabel screenshots would be NICE. didn't flame anyone. sw1tched has submitted a screenshot on 06-05-02 - 06-06-02 - 06-11-02 - 06-12-02 - 06-14-02 - 06-16-02 and 06-17-02. thats 7 submissions in 12 days. Mine were 2 submissions in 44 days. WHOA IM PART OF THE PROBLEM. hah your a joke.
I don't know if you guys have eys. But I stated that I could give a rats behind what some other guy thinks of my desktop. I use it. It works. I shared it because I thought it would be cool to show some of the wallpapers I made and downloaded. Just because I dont have a "cool" desktop, as you guys call it. Are you better than me? hell no. I have better things to do than sit at my computer all day making my desktop nice so I can win a screenshot of the day. I can imagine you getting a big grin on your face when you win it. Wow, my empty existance means something to a few people for a day! Man, people like me! Just to bring you back to reality, I don't like you and I bet a lot of people agree with me when I say "Fuck your screenshots, get a life."
Koga, I think you speak for maybe 2-3 people...all of whom are hypocrites in that the only things they've submitted were screenshots, yet you continue to attempt to belittle me because I share what I do with others. And you're telling me to get a life? thanks buddy.
frozenchrome has that compulsive disorder.. where you must complete the same task over and over... and it must be PERFECT.. and you lose sleep over stuff you did, but you think you did it wrong.. therefore, frozenchrome stays up at night redoing his desktop because he sees them as not perfect... ;)
i can understand where koga is coming from.. from what i see, everyone is making fun of him because his stuff sucks... it's not his fault... but then again, he got himself into this.. obviously he said something stupid to get himself into this.. therefore, you suck
whody, I do it because i find it relaxing. It probably takes an hour in total to make a set up, once I have found a wall. I work on my computer all day building databases and quickly tire of the same wall, so for 10mins every 2hours I go searching for new walls etc. I'm no artist and have never had any illusion of being one but I feel that I can make a contribution to the community by bringing different wallpapers etc to peoples attention.

but at least FC changes his actual shell to his dt. unlike sw1tched, who just changes his Bg and shell color. same icons, and shell for the last 6 submissions. ah well this has gone on long enough. I just originalled asked if we could get a way to disable various thinsg on the front page but has turned into a flame war which I hate responding to. sorry for the bashing. peace

Find me one guy that changes his shell every screenshot, or someone who doesn't tend to keep his style the same. I know frozen used the same icons for a lot of his screenshots, how come it's only a bad thing when i do it?
