Shell Replacers

It sure isn't litestep. Litestep is way to complicated for new users in my opinion...I don't know about any other shells.

Everybody keeps telling me not to use windowblinds but I don't know what I should use instead.

Oh, if you want things just to change the look, use Style XP, Windows Classic/Tclock, or windowblinds but windowblinds aint good.

windowblinds is good if u buy it... i hate the annoying popup thing that shows up when you download the trial version

But I got this fucking problem with style xp. Everytime I want to open stylexp it says I have to register but I choose cancel, and then nothing happens. And it goes like this everytime I want to open it.

window blinds is not a shell replacement. it's a shell enhancer that makes your windows look neat. got that?

a shell is a way to execute programs. explorer is a shell. litestep is a shell. command.com is a shell, i run it on the liquidspin.com computer so that it crashes less.

other shell replacements in no particular order -> talisman, hooverdesk, desktopx, reveal, graphite, gnome (:P), etc

It's a Shell for Linux.

litestep isn't that hard man... its easier than html... if u can learn html you can learn how to configure litestep. It just takes some patience and motivation to keep going even if something gets tough to figure out. In the end you'll be glad you learned it cause your dt will be kickass. There are many ls community sites and many irc channels and ppl willing to help you. Everyone was a newbie in the beginning

i like kde better than gnome actually, i just like evolution to an extent where i have to install all the gnome libraries anyways

Do I really need Linux to use KDE, because I don't work with Linux.

well, YOU do. it is possible to get KDE to run through XFree through cygwin through windows, but that is so far beyond you it's not even funny

yes you would actually need linux to run KDE.

imho, desktopx is one of the easiest to use and configure and it's very powerful.

Hoverdesk is probably next on the list.

Actually Metal_Dragen, Miriku is right, you can run KDE on windws with XFree and Cygwin.

There is no "best" shell replacement. It all depends on your computer skills and what you want it to do.

I installed LiteStep (using the LiteStep Installer, then upgraded to the IndieStep) about 5 days ago. Even with 3 years of experience with HTML, it took me some time to figure it out, but it wasn't as hard as people let on. It just takes patience.

I'm very happy with my desktop now. :)

litestep is surely the best shell replacement I've tried, and I've tried a bunch of 'em (litestep, hoverdesk, liteshell, core, blackbox, sharpE and maybe some others that I forgot).

Litestep all the way. Its not that hard. and if u're having trouble, use the Litestep installer and then stick to the default them :P

If u're feeling _brave_ try something new and exciting like _not_ the default.
