I was playing my xbox perfectly on night. I didn't touch anything or shake anything around it. I went to play it the next day and it doesnt even acknowledge that there is a game cd in it. If I put in a music disk it says it doesn't recognize cd eject to continue. I put in a game disk and it sounds like the cd drive spins for a second then stops. It does that one more time then nothing else. While the spining is going the light flashes green. It stops flashing after the second spin attempt. I would send it to microsoft but I had it for alittle over 4 months. Just past the 90 day warranty. I was going to open it up and see if I can find the problem, but wanted to know if anyone here know how to fix it first.

Microsoft apparently had a bad batch of XboX's or somthing, i read it somwhere on the net some guy had the sae problem and reveiwed it.. nothing you can do about it.. at least thats what i read, he said somthing about the rom wire thats connected to the HD fried or somthing ah, fuck. Sounds like im spilling hearsay but, i hope its just some dust in your case bud, good luck.
I looked at it yesterday and that may be it. Anyways if that isn't I just may have to buy a new dvd drive for it. Does any1 know where I can buy the dvd drive or find cables for it? I checked one site, but they are out of those in stock. Seems like i'm not the only one having the problem with microsoft.
that is bull shit! my gamecube had some graphical gliches (I still say to this day, someone jacked off on the mainboard). So I called up the help line, and I sent it into them, for free, and they repared it for me, for free. And it has a 1 year warranty.
Nintendo is really good on warranty stuff. I can't take it back because it is past its (registered) warranty date. Plus I threw away the reciept after I had it for a little over 100 days. I never would have thought that it would be crappy, and break on me right after If I want to get it fixed I will have to send it in at my own expense, plus the repair fee. Even when I told customer service it was a defect. I have read the reports and apparently it takes sometime to do that whole process with microsoft. They aren't known for their speedy service. It's only a washed down computer with the same parts. The only difference is that you cant mix them with actual computer parts. I will try the one week thing and see if maybe that does the trick.
Good luck on fixing it. One of my friends has an X-Box, and it crashes on him. I knew it would happen. Just look at all M$ products... all buggy and crash, and have HUGE security holes....
lemme first of all say a big "fu*ck" to all those ppl who say that microsoft and xbox sucks...go find something else to do...i am a proud owner of an xbox and had no troubles with it at all..it's true that there were a batch of buggy xbox consoles....but that happened to the ps2 and the gamecube as well...so u cant compare consoles like that...
i'll tell you what to do...dont open it up or anything...go to a store that has money back guarentee and buy an xbox.....take it home...put the buggy one in the new box and take it back for your money...if that works you'll be lucky...
The only problem with that is I have a lot of games on my hard drive that I already beat. It took hours on most of them with all the extra secrets I am looking for. I would lose all my info and time days, weeks, would be wasted. I would rather just buy a new disc drive and install it rather than start from scratch and have to go through all the games (some with cheating ways that make them hard to beat) again. I'll just be out 60 bucks so that isn't too bad.
the front light of my xbox blinks green and red and the dvd-rom does not open. does anyone knows how can I open the xbox case? There are no visible screws. I need to know if there is a disk stuck inside.
Jrosado: you need a special "star" head for a screwdriver or a "star" wrench, turn the xbox upside down, remove the pads on the corners and you'll see the screws Im talking about. You should be able to pick up the compatible screw driver at any major hardware store. As for basser I would say take it to a place like an Electronics Boutique, they repair XBOX's and they would know enough not to even tough your HD since it's obvious that the problem is not because of the hard drive. Just check around any of those kinds of stores in your area and see if they do repairs, if not, ask them about the buggy XBOX distribution and see if there is anything they can do for you. Also I would recommend contacting XBOX support anyway, even though your XBOX is past it's warrantee Im sure you can still send it in and get it fixed for a nominal fee. Right now Im addicted to my roommates copy of Halo, even after playing almost every Squaresoft game in existance, I would still have to say that that is quite possibly the greatest console game ever made...ever. And yes, I believe the XBOX is the best console out there, especially with Counter-Strike coming out for it later ^_^
My xbox is not powering up. It died with a game in the drive, but was able to extract it using the manual eject. But still no power. Any suggestions, since my 90 day warranty just ran out and I have to pay $108 for them to look at it!
X-Box rules the frikin house, but it IS Microsoft...they made an excelent machine, but if screws up major...
I've got a few friends with a Box, and they've been okay. I dunno, maybe when they released here in Australia they'd ironed out all the probs. Good thing about being here...things are fixed when they release it here, bad point - takes frikin ages to get released here in the first place...
