Why Customize.org sucks for shells

ok, what the hell is with all this customize.org bashing all of a sudden? Why dont you take a look at when those top 3 litestep shells were submitted, and read their reviews, and then maybe you will understand why they are top 3.

Maybe you should look at the last time someone gave those themes a "100" rating. I bellieve it was March of 2002, if not more recently.

Hmm you come onto a site, slag it off and a bunch of items that are obviously favourites amongst it's users.
What I'm surprised at is that you bothered to sign up to the site, why didn't you just go find another if you didn't like it?

Ill have to agree with pika on this one. People are too busy rating the damn things on looks, and not use. Yes creativity is a nice factor in skinning/theming, but what good is something if it doesnt run right. I mean if i gave you the shell of a Dodge Viper, and only a shell, would you still think the viper would be better than a perfectly running lower class car, hell no, youd want the car that actually ran.

Those themes were submitted back in last century, and since then many many changes have happened to Litestep in terms of features and eye candy. Now we have alpha blended modules and support for drop shadows and what not. I just fail to see how something as archaic as the Nix series scores over 100 - which by the way tends to contradict the whole "out of 100" scoring system =)

Come on, we all know it. It's time that the admin's did some adjusting to this site and realize that those themes have been surpased by a great many themes in terms of useability and looks. btw, piss off Max and Mooseskin. You 2 sound like a couple of n00b's....

gear, you're right, i should have said "generally" somewhere in there. but you've had the same sort of trouble with your blackbox screenshots, have you not? people who are obviously rating things on looks alone, and not bothering to look into what it is they're rating.

As for MooseSkin, I wasn't looking for a fight, I was stating an opinion that is quite widely held be alternate shell users and themers. I'm attempting to raise an awareness that the users need to comment not just on how a theme would look like if it were used as a wallpaper. (As a side note - that was sarcasm. It's kind of like being facetious. email me if you need a definition for either word)

And the themes ARE old, so why are people still, just a couple of weeks ago, rating them with a 100, without even using them? I mean, a direct quote would go like "i'm rating this theme 100 even though i've never used litestep and don't even know what a shell is". KNOWLEDGE people, if you don't know about something, don't talk about it.

Yes I am new here, and to the whole skins thing, and Pika I agree with you saying about people rating things without even trying them. The reason I'm new to this is because most custom skins I'd come across looked nice but were virtually unusable. This is the first place I'd come across with lots of skins that are nice to look at and use.

My problem with your initial post isn't that you're wrong about whether or not they're useable, it's that you started it by attacking all users of this site before you even explain the problem. If you want a decent conversation about improving things don't start off by insulting people.

Oh and by the way I personally don't reveiw something unless I've used it because of the fact it wouldn't be a fair judgement.

this thread is useless.. pika if you have a problem with the skins make one better if not be quiet and goto bed. And that goes for anyone else who is complaining about lack of good skins make one or just shut up about it already.
