maybe someone has a lego-issue or something... j/k i never saw it, but the other one is not deleted so there must be something that they didn't like.. now don't start another "why..." topic and go off create another (different) wall! lego rules =)
yea, but I tired of making walls just to have them deleted.. The best part is this: they won't tell you why. They just hide behind that "Agreement". The funny thing is, my walls haven't broken any of the rules of the Agreement.
Perhaps if SOMEONE would tell me what's up, I could avoid having my walls deleted again. I doubt that will happen, though. One of them will post the standard "We hate you, look agreement" and another will lock the topic. Great.
I don't think their motives are too far out...while they enjoy humor, they don't want Customize.org to become a silly wallpaper site. Whether or not your wallpapers were intentionally silly, Coestar, they were deleted most likely under the premise that they were.
I suppose it's all to prevent Custo from turning into a n00b13 site with n00b13 walls, and your walls were borderline. They were good renders, but not good wallpapers, Coestar.
knuff knows his stuff.. and for the record It was not I that deleted it, but I agree with whoever It was that did. There are just too many "funny" walls around where someone thinks its just hillarious to post something stupid.
Now I am not saying that your last attempt at a submission was stupid, but even though you added the background to it and the customize.org bricks and guy taking a dump it was still questionable.
I agree that it is hard not to take it personal when your stuff gets deleted but we only want push you to make it better. It is not a personal attack against you or anyone else's work that is deleted.
I'm like a time card at 5'o clock I'll punch you out!!
"I agree that it is hard not to take it personal when your stuff gets deleted but we only want push you to make it better." if there was ever a right thing to say... lol. way to sweeten the situation max ;-)
hiding behind an agreement? i think not. we moderate wallpaper submissions here, so if the admins think a submission is below-par, it gets deleted. simple as that
"my walls haven't broken any of the rules of the Agreement"
the agreement is the site deletes whatever it wants, for whatever reason, basically. How do your wall fall outside this?
from the agreement:".. you are also agreeing that we can remove your materials, or any of them, from our website at any time or from time to time without notice to you and without reason."
not trying to harsh you at all Coestar. I think you do cool Sh*t. But hell, sometime or another we're all misunderstood.

come to think of it, do we even have a disclaimer thing on what we can do with the submissions and all that. at least not an updated one. we still have many things not updated since november, lets see, was it 2000 when it crashed? no, no. november 1999. thats right. some staff writings here havent been updated since the gllen era.
ill give you a challenge to try and find some. there are several links right under your nose.
i thought his lego submissions were pretty good. A nice clean desktop wallpaper - maybe it was that they were a bit on the silly side? Or maybe that they would match what that admin thought was good as a wallpaper? eh, im rambling now...

Customize.org is not an "art gallery" for you. It's a skinning and theming site. We reserve the right to remove ANYTHING WE DON'T SEE AS RELEVANT TO OUR PURPOSE. Wallpapers, skins, whatever...if we don't think it's worthy, we have a right to remove it. That's what being a "moderated" site is all about.
I suppose the next thing you'll do is bitch and complain about how the sections are too big and you can't find anything cause they're so full of crap.
Well, if the admins weren't scared to delete anything for fear that we'd have 10 threads on the forum calling for our heads on plates when we do, maybe the sections would be thinned out more to your liking.
ok, i don't mean to go against the grain, but i must state my objection. although i will agree that the admins have the right to censor/delete what they feel is unfit, this wallpaper does not do justice to upholding of the law. you're right darksheer, this is a "skinning and theming site," and in my opinion, this wallpaper looks pretty damn good skinned on my desktop. i happen to be a guy who likes a little laugh on his desktop to brighten his day every now and then, and if you think it's too "silly" to be on this site, then why don't delete the walls that are too "ugly" or too "blue" or too "minimalistic" or too "cluttered" or too "gothic" or too "monotone"?
now you will say i am overreacting, and honestly i'll agree with you. (this is the internet. i have the right to overreact without getting my face knocked on) but think about how coestar feels, and think about how i am leading you on to think that I feel, and think about what the people that read this will feel. deleting his wall was not a community-oriented choice. a community is based on UNIQUE indiviuals, and i think being TOO silly is hardly possible...
" community is based on UNIQUE indiviuals, and i think being TOO silly is hardly possible..."
Okay. You're right, but without rules and standards, what kind of a community of individuals is it?
A lousy one, full of chaos and inadequacies.
There has to be a standard, and the admins are the ones charged with upholding it, and we were selected by the people who paid good dollars to own the site. See where I'm going with this?
So this may be a community, but it is not owned by the individuals. It's owned by some dudes who make the rules and run by the admins they picked to run things. It is not a democracy.
If you want to change things, make the owners an offer. Then maybe you can own the site and let it dissolve into anarchy.
I hate deleting walls, I really do. But sometimes, they just don't cut it. And every admin has different reasons for doing it. Just because Max or rkenshin del. a wall doesn't mean I would. Or vice versa.
Your unique community od individuals is also moderated by unique individuals. It's just how it is. We do our best.
I think any posts related to this subject should be deleted as offtopic, because it's really a non-issue.

admin.s - nothing against you guys and i don't mean to offend the artist of this piece, but coester's piece of artwork was deleted and this wasn't :http://www.customize.org/details/19784 again, i know i really don't have any say in this...
woah woah.. this has like, grown horribly out of control. :P
Ok, I got what I wanted. Thanks guys for really just owning up and letting me what the deal was. I kept making those walls because people were liking them, but if you guys think they're n00b power, then.. at least I know not to do that anymore.
Ya gotta understand my frustration, seeing my stuff get deleted... and then no one telling me why. It could've been a server error for all I knew.
So, for any admins who got really mad about this: You guys have more respect from me now. I really didn't expect to get a good answer, but you actually paid some attention. Thanks.
I wanted to let you know that I only wanted to know "why". That's all. I know that the agreement says that you guys can delete what you deem unworthy, and I totally agree with that.
In fact, I think it'd be really lame if you EVER went back on a decision like that, even if the wall was uber-over-the-top wonderful, which mine wasn't.
So, I'm sorry I made it look like an attack on customize.org. I was just getting frustrated.
Hey man, the agreement is the agreement, deal with it. Sure it may make you mad, but if an admin feels the work is not appropriate for whatever reason it is their right as admins to do whatever they want. This isn't a democratic system, but it is free =) In cases like this it isn't "free", but I do see the reason custo does what it does.
colossus - i think my point was that i see a lot of walls that don't make the cut and i really think they were good and some work was put into them.and then there are some that do make the cut and i'm dumfounded... put i guess an agreement is an agreement and after all it is free(on of the great things about the internet that seems to be changeing :*( - as arznek said. Oh btw, coestar - that was cool of you to take the road you did :) -
And Coestar, I know you want to know why (so would I actually) but it sets a bad precedent, and then every dick and jane will be wanting to know "why".
There is no "why", it just is. I know that sucks but, once again, we try our best.

THe wallpaper section here is growing immensly. Last month we were sitting on 6,000 wallpapers, and now only a month later, we are just under 7,000 wallpapers. While this is great and all, but, to a certain extent, it needs to be controlled.
We do not want to come across as just another "wallpaper website", but we want to keep Custo to its roots and what it was founded upon ... a skin site, one of the first ever designed (next to Skinz.org).
Although your wallpaper was truely funny, it wasn't needed, and therefore was moderated. If we kept every little submission that is funny, or takes 5 minutes (like that link Compo posted), its only a waste on the server.
Here's a prime example: DevArt has about 650,000 submissions. But I'm sure that 600,000 of these submissions are utter junk. Granted we want to see growth, and we have been seeing growth in the community, we still want to control it and not let it get "out of hand". And when we get those new users, who decide to upload 15 items at once, its more of a workload to us to have to deal with.
However, thats not a problem ... I mean, we are used to it, and thats the reason we volunteered to be admins. =)
Ok, so theres an agreement, and yes, its quite long ... but yes, it does state about our submission policy that we reserve the right to remove submissions without notifying the user. And in all actuality, if you would like to know, we do have a "reason box" when we delete something which generates a log file as to why that specific submission was deleted. But no, it doesn't forward that reason to the users e-mail box. Sorry. And if there is anything you want to disbute about, the admins are always available to be contacted via IRC, AIM, ICQ, MSN, and e-mail. We don't bite, so don't be scared of us (at least I don't, can't say the same for Colossus). =)
I totally understand where you are coming from, but I hope you understand our standpoint and where we are coming from and how we look at things that will / will not benefit this website.
If you have any questions or comments, please feel free to drop me a line.
a quick comment here on the subject of the 10,000 follow-ups that always happen when we say "it was deleted because we moderated it" of everyone saying "well, yeah, why wasn't THIS deleted" pointing us to something else.
*shrug* We didn't delete it? WTF? Hell if I know why it wasn't deleted....has it even been rated?
Coestar, I appreciate you're understanding, my message was more directed at the mobs who decided to jump on the "angry at custo" bandwagon.
I know you're working on a lot of changes to the site at the moment but how's this for an idea: Add a little bit that when an admin deletes a submission they get the oppertunity to write why in a box that appears on the "Sorry, the skin was not found" page?
- MooseSkin "My opinions may have changed, but not the fact that I am right."
well, rkenshin and I were operating a bowling alley together in Southern Alabama, and business wasn't too good. (Not a lot of bowlers down there, humidity makes alleys too sticky and the shoes won't slide, also the ball breaks too early) One day rkenshin shows up to the alley, and as he's putting on the clown suit (the place was called "Circus Bowl") he starts telling me about this "computer" thing he bought. Bear in mind this was around 1988. Anyway, I and went and got myself one of these "computers" and began to surf the "web". One day I was shopping online for hubcaps and I stumbled upon this site. Turned out lamplighter and I were on the same prison farm in the late 70's and were at different times both the cell "bitches" of a Mr. Grover Jefferson. Having shared this experience lamp and I have a deep bond, and he instatntly offered me an admin position. I never got my hubcaps. Although I didn't know much at first, I was able to learn very quickly. miriku has developed this "quick learn" method of duct taping you to a pole in the basement, putting headphones on you and playing a tape of a woman screaming "Megakitten" over and over. Every once in a while he came downstairs and threw a bucket of mop water on me and gave me some dryer lint to eat.
Sometimes he'd turn on the lights.
After a year or two in the basement, I was ready. The rest, asthey say, is history.

i worked at the bowling alley too.. except my job was to clean the gutters. wynton was the DJ, while max was the bouncer... revird operated the lighting and music.
