I'm working on 36 hours with no real sleep. I laid down last night for awhile, but other than that, nada. I'm starting to see things out of the corner of my eye. when people talk to me it sounds like their far away. my blood has basically been replaced with coffee.I was thinking about pushing it another day, but I don't want to freak out. Anyone gone 72 hours or over? What's it like? It's kind of fun when you just sort of examine what's happening to you.

Personally, I've done about 48 hours myself. The most sleep deprived I've ever been though was sleeping a total of about 6 hours in a 70 hour period....I have never been so tired in my life and I slept for about 18 hours straight when I finally did get in bed.
My roommate managed to go about 72 hours one time with no sleep and proceeded to collapse for about 20 after he made it to sleep.
I've heard of a scientist who actually wanted to know what the effect of not sleeping was so he forced himself awake for about 120 hours. Around this point, eyes open and awake, he went into REM (Rapid Eye Movement, for those who don't know, and also the type of sleep during which we dream). The experience destroyed the scientist's brain, driving him insane.
40 hours without even lay down for a while for me. The worst part is that I never recover the hours I didn't rest, so I feel the rest of the week like an idiot, can't pay attention to the same thing for to long and forgett what i was thinking...
A friend sufers from insomnia for a long time, can't remember for how long he stayed awake (i think a little more than 72) he says it's the worst feeling you could ever feel, you feel really tired, but you can't sleep and it drives you insane
48 hours straight working non stop on a wallpaper.. Got some sleep for 3 hours and woke up and went to class .. and slept the whole day, teachers were pissed off and all/..
I went for about 48 hours once. After that point, my brain decided to shut off, and I crawled under a table and slept for 17 hours.
There were 2 articles in the news in the past month, 2 people in Japan collapsed and died of sleep deprivation, in public. They both died at 24-hour internet cafes.
If you knew what I was really thinking, you would probably stand a little farther away from me...
i was really sick one time - my nose congestion was so bad that i couldn't leterally breath through my nose- so i stayed up about three days - i really light headed started seeing things...

World Record is, I believe, 11 days. Some guy in africa did it. I think he slept for 3 days after that. Most I've gone is prolly 45-50 hours because I went from Thailand back to Washington, and I was mixed between jet lag, and wanting to stay awake because the sun was out

I was up for 36 hours at a rpg convention where I was helping with the computer gaming room. Dosen't seem like alot, but it's a hell of alot for me. I wasn't really seeeing things, but my body felt like a wet noodle and I was completly pale, so a firend let me use his hotel room to sleep out of pity. Slept 7 hours, got back up and was ready to go again :).
The longest i have stayed up was 3 days, and that last day nothing was normal. The whole day I felt like i was underwater, fust floating. I would zone out constantly. I dunno, i just recommend trying to go to sleep now.

I've done 80+ hours twice, the first time I had to sleep for 16 hours to recover, the second time I ultimately collapsed and passed out, woke up two hours later on the floor and decided I needed some sleep.
I'm at around 44 hours without sleep right now actually.
About 48 I think and I only slept about 13-14 after and felt fine, although the first all-nighter I did was only about 35 hours, I slept about 13-14 hours again but felt like crap for the rest of the next day.
I've never had any serious side-effects but I find I loose track of time, can't remember stuff very well and get drunk very easily after about 30 hours.
I have heard you go mad if you go for too long, mainly cos you need your sleep to sort out what you did in the day, no sleep = mental traffic jam.

At one point in time in my life I managed to stay awake for nine days.... with the help of a little friend I call crystal methamphetamine. I will not condone nor condemn my act as I learned my lesson in the end. After the 5th day of staring out the window waiting for friends to stop by I decided to create my own. They didn't mind my consistent babbling and my unearthly stench. We ate a whole box of eggo waffles in one sitting. Then I chucked them at the wall, and carpet, and finally the toilet. On the ninth night after jumping out my bedroom window and running naked downtown I swore off the shite and drank a case of canadian and smoked a big bag of northern lights. I won't be waking up for a couple of days. I went to sleep and an angel visited me. I thought it was my mom waking me for school (no she didn't live with me), I was wrong. Instead a girl was telling me my house was on fire and no I could not go back to sleep.... house? fire? what? here? my front door was deadbolted and knoblocked and chained. now there is a anarexic blond crack whore who looks like whole month has been my 9 days standing in my bedroom. Is there anyone else in the house? my roommate who ditched me on the 5th day was asleep with his latest conquest. she goes away. I get up in my boxers and head for the door. she is gone but my roomate has been stirred. whats going on? where is she? where is who? nevermind! the house IS on fire. the door IS kicked in! there is no girl. outside the carport and front and side of the house are flaming. to get out we have to go through the front door and fire. there is no girl. I personally went through it 5 times trying to put out the enormous fire with an icecream bucket and calling 911 from the neighbours. until they stopped me. I was burnt, bleeding, soaking, and sporting some joe boxers that i hadn't washed in about three weeks. Is everybody out of the house? yes. no! oh my god! EVE! eve lives in an old room in the back of the house with no windows. the room used to hold a grow op. he is a deadman sleeping. So in I go again. my life is a piece of shit so why shouldn't I? The fire dept is 4 blocks away and they ain't comming for another 15 minutes. Eve! wake the fuck up! tabernaque! what thee fuk! Eve is a french canadian in his late 40's. Eve is scared shittless. My roommate and his bitch are balling across the street. I guide him though the smoky maze that was our kitchen to find flames coming through the walls of our living room. The water I had spread around the door with pointless enthusiasm has left us a point of safe passage. although not safe enough for the 2 rcmp officers standing on the road watching the place and maybe me burn! the fire dept turned up 10 or 15 minutes later to see the roof cave in.... victim services took us to a hotel. i did not get to finish my sleep. i never did do meth again. The paper next day read "angel saves teen family of three..." The shitty part about this story is that this is not the first or the last time that drugs have almost ended my life. I moved on to worse drugs after that experience and had even closer faces with death. today I am clean and sober and sleep very well thank you. I just bought $4500 bed last week and I think I hear it calling to me........
i did like 51 hours once. i didnt sleep a whole day coz i was travelling to US, and i wanted to sleep on the plane but couldnt, and when i got to US i heard some bad news from a family member which made me quite sad and didnt sleep for another whole day. i had a sore throat after. adn slept for 15 hours, awake for 4, and slept another 8.
i've done totally 69 hours once, that is with no sleep in between and no coffee/suger/anything. I slept for 11 hours after that and woke up feeling shitty cuase i¨had slept for too long. oh, and my back hurt.
How did it feel? dunno, normal i guess. i was only losing energy from not sleeping so i was significantly weaker.
Yeesh, you people have me way beat. I think right now I've never been up for over 24 hours straight without sleep. I think the all-time high here is around 20-22 hours. At the most. I sleep a lot. I've also SLEPT for about 16 hours straight, so that has to count for something :)
I was in A Contest At a Computer Cafe thing, I won, I stayed up for 67 hours Playing computer Games straight. 5 min break every 2 hours to walk around. stareing At the computer for that long cant be good. I was in the Newspaper and everything cuz it was for Charity. Im still known as the ultimate computer game nerd.... oh well.
my record is somewhere above 36 hours without sleep, just goin to a party, spending the nite (watching everyone else fall asleep), and then goin to another one... got about 6 hours of sleep, and then i got to go to the first day of skool! ^_^
you are techinicly dead after 6 days with out sleep.. .personaly ive gone for 4 days on nothing but stragicly placed caffine and the right foods... not fun... but in a way euphoric.. but no one cares what i think

i don't think i've ever stayed up more than 36 hrs straight, but the worst thing i've ever found is going on for a few weeks or months on only a couple hours of sleep a night. after a while that start's getting to you. second semester last year i started doing that, and my stress skyrocketed and i swore that either i was going to go insane or kill somebody. luckily, neither happened. but still.
During lans i've gone for more than two days straight. Probably around 50 hours or so. Definitely not a fun thing to do when you have to go to work the next day.
I'm on 30 hours at the moment, and have to stay up all night tonight to talk to some friends...

...going to two parties, one after the other is fairly good, giving me at least 48 hours awake, before I got home, went for a walk and proceded to colapse (in a paddock at home, thank god) I slept there for about 3 hours before mum came looking for me.
Funny part was that there was no grog involved (too young)...instead we were playing 'torch tag' at a friend's farm that night...
Suffered mainly from lack of energy...running away from the guy who was 'it' didn't help the case.
But if you're dong something, it helps. I've played Diablo 2 for about 12 hours and it only seemed like about 2 for me...
well if your talking just hours my record was 74-75 hours when I was manic as hell and with about 2-3 pounds of suger, but if you want to count just voluntary hours then its about 36 hours, again with alot of suger.
As for how it felt, well I was manic and eating all the time so I had so much energy I didn't feel tired untell the manic part ended then I just fell over were I was and woke up about 34-36 hours later feeling just sick, I spent about a week getting over it but over all it wasn't all that bad.
Interestingly, to update my earlier post, I've only had four hours of sleep in the last four days and counting. And I honest to god can't sleep (tried all night), so I may call a doctor about it.
The longest I went without sleep was during a year i suffered severe insomnia, about halfway into the problem I went a 6 day stretch without getting any sleep.... i was hearing things, everything was surreal, and just didnt seem right.... thoughts and scenes and settings all merged into one big incomprehensible memory. It was pretty messed up... and I'd already spent the previous 6 months getting an hour or less sleep a night :/ Not fun at all, I was very paranoid and stuff.
the longest I did was four days in a row, and after that, 36 hours on a regular basis for more than 25 years, and last saturday morning I didn't feel that good and then I had 2 infarctus in a row. Not funny to be in an hospital for Xmas, but I was lucky, they cured me very well with a bunch of little coils or springs in the arteries and then I could get back home. Can't sleep better tho... :(
