well iv tryed to atempt to start "proper" was done on the old poly, anyways wasn't the "anyone? bueler? anyone?" just a way to talk controversial about anything?. and the poly topic is a place to talk about anything.
whats everyones opinion on saddamn hussian and that whole situation?
"saddamn hussian" isn't a good topic.. let's talk about this... what if you were going down the street.. and you found a camera in the middle of the road.. and it had illegal alien pornography on the camera... you were being tracked by the fbi.. and you made a website.. but they couldn't shut it down. how is that possible?

Do you really think it's any different now. The internet gave people freedom of information like never before. All the US government is trying to do is bring back the status quo. The US government has always been heavy handed about privacy. I can see the Macarthy trials happening all over again. Only the question this time will be 'Are you now, or have you ever been a member of an Islamist Group'.
And information is power. Do you think the gov. is rerally worried about the internet becoming an area of unrest? I can actually see why they would be....people can organize pretty secretly and efficiently, very easy to share large quantities of info in many ways, easy enough to encrypt said info, the list goes on forever if think about it.
Maybe the witch trials will include hackers as well......

think about it.. even though not all customize.org users are americans, this kinda goes out to all people from all countries..
in my state,.. in my city,... it is illegal for anyone under 17 to drive past 11... plus there is like an 11 o'clock curfew for people under 18 without an 18 year old PARENT or GUARDIAN present.. that's a lil foolish..and the only reason i say this is foolish is because even if your parents NEED you or WANT you to drive around past 11 or go out walking past 11, you'll get your license taken away until you're 21 or get brought to jail.. how stupid is that? since when do citizens in america not have ANY say about what they can do?
[customize.org] i'm so glad i got my own. i ain't worried bout josephine. my life is a natural high, come on and bunny hop with me
well, hate to be the naysayer, but as a minor, you don't have the same rights as 18+ folks, you are in the custody of your parents. The curfew is probably more to keep kids out of trouble and their parents (who are ultimately responsible for any dumb things their children do) out of court and from having the crap sued out of them because little Jimmy can't handle his liquor.
My hometown had the same policy, but the cops would let it slide if you were driving home from work or a school thing. But the taking the licsense away until you're 21, that's b.s.
All I know is, I'm glad the cops stop people in my neighborhood at night. My hood can be shady.

Sounds like the good ol' 'down under' got it easy...
A curfew for under 18's? That's pretty sucky! Man, down here, if you're caught walking around in the dead of night, the cops pull you over, get your details, so that if something happens they got a ready list of nightprowlers who could be responsible...
Damn, man, some people got it bad...

At the moment we are pretty free in the UK. There are laws drafted, though not yet in force for data and communications. There are no curfews. You can smoke, drive, copulate and marry at 16 (though not all at the same time), drink at 18 and there is no death penalty.
When I think about it, I don't know if Australia has a law for what age you can smoke. Drinking is a no until 18, with the exception if you're at home with parents, or at a restraunt(spl? i suck) and are eating while drinking.
I know smoking is a big no-no at school - in a way that's making it a (unenforceable by police) law. Suppose that's why not many people take up smoking while still at school, including myself...

the bad thing about judging the US though, is that not every state is the same... When i used to live in Alabama things were a lot easier to do this and that, but people were also a little more old fasioned point of views... Case and Point - here to even get you drivers permit you need about 20 peices of information - there not too much. Here the local news was saying "Didn't get enough of the of the Victoria's Secret runway show?" - "We'll show you more @ 11" - i doubt you'd see that there... Point is, is that the there are two sets of laws for every state - which in my opinion kinda sux.... But, i really think these new "Homeland Security" laws are going too far - we can tap this and that without warrent??? Before you needed one - which took two judges and two witnesses... JEEZUS - im get more and more pissed as i see my senate act like puppets while BUSH is the puppet master - these people need to get a FRIGGEN' mind of their own... Americans need to wake up and see that what little rights a gov. gives seems to be shrinking and shrinking... Im, ranting and not making any sense - i know - i've just been pissed at the homeland security acts and this and that... - sorry guys/gals....

At my school, though, it seems to be all the 'bad eggs' who do (you know, the class clown who bullies the others and acts like a tosser). That's why the 'good guys' (like I used to be) never fell into it. Just wanted to be any place they weren't.
Yeah, smoking is not allowed at school, but they still do...should have smelt the toilets there!
...the cigarette smoke, I mean! In the toilets...
Ainan he so stupid, he sees a photo of himself and says 'hey, that's the guy from the mirror!'
In Ontario is isn't illegal to smoke if you are over 16. It is, however, illegal if you sell/give smokes to anyone under 18, you are in for a hefty fine or even jail time. Same goes for booze (19 in Ontario, 18 in Quebec, I live in Ottawa so I can just hop the border.)
Yeah, here it's illegal to seel smokes to uner 18's but I've heard nothing of a lwa against actually smoking while under 18.
Besides, if you wanted smokes, you could always get them. I have a friend who was over 18 while still at school (he got kept back about twice...three times...) and he'd go down the street with over $50 from all the smokers at school who needed to get a hit. He usually got to keep the change, so he was siting rich! IT was good bein his friend too...free food from the free cash he amassed!
Ainan he so stupid, he sees a photo of himself and says 'hey, that's the guy from the mirror!'
here you are free to do what ever (smoke, drink, drive, whatever) you want the minute after you turn 18... BUT... you see, nothing is perfect... If the police found you at night, they will probably stop you under any excuse until you give them money... so, somehow, it always sucks
Cops round here bug you for the sake of bugging you...they suck.
I'm usually roaming the streets around 1am and such, and the cops talk to me a bit...they think I'm sitting infront of the music store because I want to break in, not because I'm freaking cold and am waiting for my ride...
Ainan he so stupid, he sees a photo of himself and says 'hey, that's the guy from the mirror!'
I haven't noticed any problems with the police in the UK. But I don't suppose I'm part of their target group. I expect they have a hard time doing their job and not being seen to be picking on minorities. I live in a area with a very large Muslim community. generally it is a quiet and safe community. every now and then there are people in the high street encouraging others to join Islamist groups, the police are there but they tend to keep their distance and just observe. The are bound to be a few rotten apples, but I think generally the police try their best to protect people and uphold the law.
@Giraffe - you're right, but they still procede to bug the heck out of people when they're doin nothin wrong...but it's true, they're just out to make sure people are safe...
Seen "Super Troopers"? If I was a cop, I'd probably get around doing stuff like that too. I mean...I AM THE LAW!!! :P
Ainan he so stupid, he sees a photo of himself and says 'hey, that's the guy from the mirror!'
The first week I lived in Chicago (uptown , rotting badness) I saw two cops beating the crap out of a drunk. Now, I imagine he did something wrong sometime earlier and there was a reason for this, but the guy was harmless. He was half passed out when they apprached him , already on the ground.
Anyway, one cop sat on his back and and braced his nightstick on the back of the guy's neck, while the other cop basically did Reebok Step Aerobics on his head while shouting "Not so funny now!".
They didn't care I was 15 feet away watching this. Scary.
:::A troll is someone who, finding that no-one likes them, decides to pretend that it's on purpose.:::
I don't know what is more dangerous in here: thieves or cops.... Really, police is totally useless here, I wouldn't care if a cop stops me at night becuase I'm under 18 and I shouldn't be on on the street that late, after all is for ower own safety.
But here, if you want to "get rid" of some thief or any other bad person, you don't call the police to arrest him, you pay to them, and they will "take care" of the problem. And the worst part is that everyone, me included, see this as something normal...
As you can see, there is a huge difference between civilizad countries (like UK, Giraffe) and Latin America. Don't get me wrong, I love my countries, and I'm proud to be latinamerican, but we are doing so many wrong things that really makes me angry
I spent alittle time in central america. Nicaragua, costa rica, ect. It is weird how the police are. They never asked me directly for money, but at one point I and a friend felt obliged to give them some. They stopped us and asked where we were going. It was obvious we were American tourists. Because: We were white. We had huge backpacks on. We looked clueless. We made friendly conversation with them, they asked us how things were, anyone giving us trouble, yadda yadda. Then when we started to leave, out came the guns (yes, real guns. rifles, as in machine guns) and they said they were sorry, but unless we could prove we a had legit business, they would have to take us to jail, for vagrancy. Keep in mind there were probably a dozen street people within a stone's throw of us.. Then they just stood there. Didn't take us away, just stood there with guns pointed at us. Finally one of them asked us what would like to do. I took off my g-shock and gave it one of them. He took it but they still didn't let us go. I had NO money on me. My friend however had about 100$ American on him. He gave them that and they laughed and told us if anyone gave us trouble, come find them. They acted like they wanted our packs too, and we were scared enough to hand them over, but when we started to they just laughed and shoved them back at us.

My bad cop experence... A cop chased me down and cuffed me then hit me with a nightstick in the back of the head just for carrying a skate board around local toronto. When i told him i was going to get a lawyer for it what he did he told me he would arrest me for assulting a police officer if i did then he uncuffed me and told me to go home.. i really dislike some cops.. but iv really only had that one bad experence and for the rest of the cops i wouldn't know. i know they are out to "serve and protect" but some times you really question what they are serving and who the hell they are protecting.
@colossus72: so you know excactly what I'm talknig about... they will never ask you for money but they will talk, and talk, and talk, until you get tired and give them something, the "what would like to do" is classical...
well being a black guy myself, best thing for me to when stopped by the cops is to stfu and give them what they want or else I end up like rodney king and abner louima and all the other cats that get roughed up by the cops.. unless I have a video cam of course to get it all on tape and sue them!

Time travel is a good subject.. I use to listen to artbell all the time and he would have some crazy guys on there talking about building time machines.
colossus, u meen speed up? and its all a load of shit because if any of you know a lil about quantum mechanics it completely explanes everything and how it is impossible.
take going back and killing your grandfather - quantum mecahics sudjests that you will have traveled to a paralell universe and the man you killed wasn't your grandfather.
it gets kinda complicated from there on and i'm assuming that all of you are long bored with my post....
o urh monkey brains?
rampagemonkey- Have you ever tried to eat car cleaner? Take it from me, it doesn't taste as good as it looks on the label
Time itself is just a worldwide human perception.. in otherwords we are all living the same lie, its a state of mind and thats why we need clocks to get us all on the same wavelength again.
Yikes all that stuff about cops and laws is terrible, I'd be so pissed off if I had a curfew and I'd not done anything to deserve it! The worst things cops here do really is to give you a dirty look as they drive by if you're doing something like skating on the road or whatever. The only bad thing I'd say the cops here do is put so much emphasis on catching people doing 10mph more than the speed limit so they can fine them and make money that they seem to do little else.
Oh and I'm not sure if that's what you're getting at Max but time isn't just a human thing, it would still go by if we weren't here. The only part that is done by us is the measurement, in the same way a mile would still be that distance if humans weren't around to measure it as a mile.
- MooseSkin "Anyone who believes in telekinesis please raise my hand"
i agree with max, "time" is only relitive because things age/we need to know when to do certian things.i think if we lived forever/had nothing to do we wouldn't have "time" at all.
3:00 never really passes by. i just need to know i was late
I've just been watching Back to the Future - Part 2 and some questions came to mind. Thought it might be interesting to discuss it on here...
Problem 1 They get back to 1985 to find it's different, they're on a different timeline because of Bif taking the Almanac back to 1955
Questions a) First of all is it possible to get to a different '85 from that future? Surely they would have to go back before the change to get onto the other timeline. b) Assuming what happend is correct could they not get back to their '85 by going back to before the change (that happens in '55) where the timeline's normal, then forward to '85. Since they left the timeline when it was normal would they re-enter it as normal? If not how could you get from the alternative '85 to the original future?
Problem 2 They arrive in '55 and Marty says it feels like he was there just yesterday, Doc says he was.
Question If Marty was wearing a watch and made a log of everything that happend over all the films, and the time (on the unchanged watch) they happend then it would appear to all happen over just a few days. Does this mean that time travellers create their own timeline, only a really irratic one, hopping from one point to another? Or is this irrelavent because a "timeline" is just a human perception?
Well hope you have fun with them. I'll be back later to see what you think...
- MooseSkin "Anyone who believes in telekinesis please raise my hand"

OH! Do tell, oh wise one.
lol.
:::A troll is someone who, finding that no-one likes them, decides to pretend that it's on purpose.:::
btw, I was referring to the process of of stretching percieved time through medidtation.
Not shooting photons through slits at at near light speed and pondering the results.
:::A troll is someone who, finding that no-one likes them, decides to pretend that it's on purpose.:::
The absolute speed of light is defined as the speed of light in a vacuum. When light travels through objects (like air or glass) light will slow down. This is what happens when water refracts light, and this is what lenses exploit to magnify. So yes photons can travel at less than the speed of light. Recent experiments have shown that light can not only be slowed down, but stopped completely.
Here is an extract from the 'New Scientist' story:
"A PULSE of light can be stopped dead, and then sent on its way again at the flick of a switch, say two American research teams. Their achievement takes us a step closer to quantum computers, because it provides a way to pluck quantum information from a beam of light without having to keep individual atoms in a fragile quantum state.
Light travels through empty space at 300,000 kilometres per second, or somewhat slower in a dense medium such as glass or water. In 1999, Lene Hau of Harvard University stunned physicists by slowing light to a few metres per second (New Scientist, 20 February 1999, p 10).
Now Hau has gone one step further and brought light to a complete standstill in a specially prepared gas of cold sodium atoms. At the same time, a team at the Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics has reported achieving similar results in a hot gas of rubidium atoms.
According to Ron Walsworth of the Harvard-Smithsonian team, similar techniques could play a key role in future super-fast quantum computers. Such machines will need to transfer quantum information from light beams to atoms for processing. Previous attempts to do this have used light to push individual atoms into an excited state. But these states are so delicate they are liable to be destroyed by background noise."
Time does not excist. It's simply a way for us stupid humans to count a non-essence because our minds are to simple to understand something that has always been and will be which is everywhere, but still nowhere. Anything can be pressent anywhere as long as speed, movement and continium can be repeated to the infinite.
