I think bakahams7er misread that as "uninstall", so did I when I saw it first.

You need StyleXP ( www.tgtsoft.com ) which is shareware, or you can use the patch that makes WinXP accept the themes (also on their site), which is free but pretty complicated to install.

you do NOT need to install style xp to use the "styles", even TGTSoft say so, but you do need to patch your uxtheme.dll thought. If the patch didn't work on your machine. Try downloading the file from http://home.elp.rr.com/vortex2050 instead. That place will keep you updated on the latest version anyway.

The style format is a windows xp native format. So if any author, following the MS guidelines, should have thier "styles" work anyone's copy of windows xp (with plus! installed - that's why the file needs to be patched).

Careful with some of the styles as they can be buggy at places that seem weird. The Teknision v2 style by playboy makes the software unstaller on xp's control panel not accessible when every I run my machine with that style. But, must of time, they're pretty bug free.

So stop wasting hd space, as well as resources during usage, with Style XP. Patch your uxtheme.dll instead.

To install, uncompress/put each theme in their own directories/folders under your typical .../windows/resouces/themes directory/folder.

forgot again ... to use them, select the style you want by going to the "appearance" tab in the display panel

the list of available styles should in the "windows and buttons" drop list box

Um uri, I did mention the patch, I didn't say you HAVE to install Style XP. But at least you went into more detail about it for him.
