Has anyone ever had a problem with winamp over riding icons that you set for .mp3s? I am using Iphile and running 2.8 of winamp. Maybe I should just update winamp...

Have you told it not to? Preferences... Setup... File types... un-highlight the file extensions you don't want it to re-register.

Rhewt: Yeah I have that problem all of the time. I set a custom icon to my mp3 files, and regardless of any options I set inside Winamp, as soon as I open an MP3 with it it auto resets my icons. Even used the "Folder Options > File Types" Menu, and still nothing. I hate the generic icons.
I even tried using Exescope and editing the winamp.exe file, finding the icons it uses for file associations, and replacing them with the ones I want (which was a huge pain in the ass I might add, a lot of converting and junk) and still no avail, still re-set them to the default.
Anyone else got any ideas?

Ridge: I figured out how to make it work. First open up winamp, then go into prefs. Go to setup, then File Types under that. On the right side, there should be 3 check boxes under the two icon toggle selections. Uncheck the box that says "Register types on Winamp Start". Uncheck this and your problems are solved!

No, but you don't me something different from what I did. If I did what you said to do, it no longer associated winamp with those files. Or atleast on my computer.

That means you have other media player on your 'puter and you have them "auto register filetypes" in their preferences. Here's what you should do:

1. Open your other media player(s) register the filetypes you want them, but un-register anyone that you want to associate with winamp instead.

2. Uncheck any "auto-register filetype" option(s) in the other media player(s)

3 Use folder option to register filetypes you want with winamp or do that in winamp itself

4. Uncheck "auto register" in winamp" use the slider in winamp's filetype option dialogue box to select the icons you want to use

4b if you prefere to use individual icons or icons you didn't hacked into winamp, then use folder option or the registry editor to make the icon association

note: close/shut down your other media player(s) before you set the option in winamp/folder option/windows registry
