A friend of mine wants me to fix up her laptop. She has a crapload of shit on it, and it runs winME. I was thinking about formating and installing 2kpro. Does anyone know how well win2kpro will work on a Celeron 1ghz laptop? ___ Because of ignorance, perfection was overthrown~

I am more than aware that is has enough power to push win2kpro, as I have it on several machines that are well under 1ghz. My only concern was it not being compatible with laptop technology, even though this concern may seem stupid, I just don't want to mess up her laptop ;p If I have to, I will just reinstall ME, but as most of us know, ME = BAD. ___ Because of ignorance, perfection was overthrown~
I run w2k on a Thinkpad 233 mhz P pro with 32 mb of ram. I turn off fade effect, keep disply colors don. I only use it for the hyperterminal, but it boots and runs fine. I dunno if Office or anything would fly on it. When 2k was introduced in 99 Most people were only running pII machines between 133-500 mhz with 32-64 mb of ram anyway. Your friends laptop will run FASTER I imagine on w2k and be more stable than it was on ME. I'd bet anything. For one, no memory issues that ME is famous for.
Don't feel bad shocks, it needs to be repeated over and over and over and over anyway that XP sucks the fat one. Do some digging all you XP people, you'll learn, that bloated beast is the ultimate in spyware.
W2K for me until Linux is really ready for prime time. And yeah, W2K works fine on laptops. When it first arrived, MS even sold it as being mobile if I remember correctly.
Worry more about id'ing the hardware correctly and dl the appropriate drivers beforehand. Save yourself some major headaches.
I've done the digging and that's why I like XP now. If you're prepared to customise (yep it's spelt with an S here in the UK) it to your liking then it's worth having.
