I agree with phunkyspr, here here! :) Now all I need is a machine powerful enough to run it. Never seen spec requirements so high for any game ever. I'll just play it on my brother's athlon monster.
Exactly. I've had the E3 test installed on my system for a couple of months (3 playable maps) and I can tell you that I'm not even getting 10 fps. it's around 2 fps maybe 3. Unplayable : (
It's really not worth trying to guess what specs you'll need from the beta, it's not finished or as senex said optimized. Then you've got all the settings to take into account. I've got mine running at about 10fps on an 850Mhz PC. Unless anyone has actual information about the final release from ID then it's all just pretty inaccurate speculation.
I had it on my comp too a few weeks back, I got 70fps+ in some places, but the code is so damn unstable and there are sooo many bottlenecks to sort out.
if i had a computer powerful enough to handle doom III, then i would say it's prolly gonna be the best game this year, but cuz i don't, i'm gonna say that it'll suck just to make me feel better for not having a good enough video card and processor ^.^

ok, just to fill yall in. At E3, Doom 3 was running on a dual p4 2.0 with 1028 megs of ram and a gf4, and it was getting 50 fps :/ I downloaded the beta and ran it on my p4 1.7 with 512 megs of ram and a gf4 and I got 20 fps at best.

OMG that's ridiculous, I can't believe those specs are erquired for decent performance . . . . I'm sure there are certain settings that I could turn down, tho. Well, by Ooctober I'll change to an AMD Opteron 64-bit processor - maybe that'll help.
i honestly think video game companies have traded substance for SUPER graphics. I just want a good multiplayer game with good graphics thats just fun to play....for EVERYONE to play. Even that guy on a p2 233 with 32 megs of ram and still using a 56k. I used to be that guy, and it sucks being that guy.

you know what, I just found my tribes CD. Colossus, the next time you are on irc we need to hook up and play. That is after I get COMPusa to fix my computer. Dont every take your shit there to get fixed. My computer is not recongnizing my CD-rom drives at the moment, and its really buggin the hell outta me.

None of the future specs of the game can be based on the leaked alpha. The code is obviously not optimized at all, and the alpha was designed for E3 ONLY. Meaning: It was designed to show off the best and shiniest graphics that ID could display with the code and engine that they have right now. By the time the game is released, any of you getting atleast 20fps on the alpha should have no problem playing the full version. On my Athlon XP 2100 with 1gb of ram and a g4 ti4200 i got ~35 fps (minus areas with a lot of blood which reduced even my roommates mighty Radeon 9700 to 1 (one) frame per second). So a machine similar to mine should have no problem running it. Oh and just to scare everybody and show just how unoptimized the alpha was, get ready for this..the alpha runs at 640x480. Yes that's right, those pitiful frame rates were coming from an alpha running at 640x480. I dont think i've played any game at that resolution since 1993. You can increse it to 800x600 and it looks even prettier but, obviously, runs reallllly slow.
Radeon 9700 . . . I heard that ATI is coming out with a "replacement" of some kind for the Radeon series, or in any case, a brand new card that'll represent the "next generation" of vidcards.

For that kind of cash you can buy a Mac and play Photoshop on it :-)

What the hell Alienware costs $6000? lol I've seen ones with top of the line EVERYTHING, even 2 gigs of the fastest DDR ram, and some with Rambus too, even then only $2500-$3000
Maybe he was just exxagerating to get the point across, that Alienware IS expensive.
On my 1.4ghz Tbird, 512 ddr266, GF2 TI (I know, GF2, eat it) I got 20-25 fps with no problems, not sure why everyone else was gettin bad framerates with more powerful systems. Although, when I would shoot the zombies and crap, it would drop so low that it'd skip like a scratched cd hah, but even with the alpha settings, 640x480 everything bare minimium, it was still the most impressive thing i've seen. Imagine runnin that bitch at 1280x1024 max detail, *Drools* and gettin like 60fps mmmm might be a while before we get that high though :) Maybe with optimized final code it'll happen, wouldnt doubt it. ID has always been good about those things.
Yea, they scam us brits. Build your own machine, with the same specs for a third of the price of their machines. And if you go on my 'page' you'll see my comp specs. It woulda run past 75fps if I had vsync off (but I really hate the 'shredding' of frames).
Wait another year until the AMD Opterons are mainstream (maybe longer.) Then go get a 64-bit AMD rig. Until then, get some good porn to tide you over . . .
