first grab a screenshot with nothing on it, then go back and grab a new one with everything present, then go into photoshop, load both as different layers, and set opacity 50% on the higher one.

i recommend acid. you might think the registration fee is a bit high, but if you find a good retailer you trust you can set up a longer term plan at a better price

Any application that makes your windows transparent will pomp a lot of juice. It's cool, just it's not worth the slow down.

second off, check out virtual plastic's site for the resource hack, or go to www.stardock.com and they have a program that i have been running which generates transparencies for menus and whatever programs you want to make partially transparent (or fully transparent if you want : P
