Well, like everyone else on this site, I have grown tired of that horrendous yellow color the AIM programmers have provided for us, so I am working on fixing that. My idea is something that copies the buddylist and redisplays it how you want it. IE, your own colors, fonts, transparency, what to show if away or idle, etc. You would still have to run the main buddy list, but just keep it minimized. It would work by acting as a monitor on port 5190, checking for when a buddy comes and goes. I uploaded a picture of what I have done so far @ http://members.cox.net/halcyonical/AIMidea.png (Most names in the picture are fake for security reasons). Currently it can detect when a buddy joins or leaves and update the list, but there are still a few errors in parsing the data every now and then. If anyone is interested in it let me know, or if you think I'm just wasting my time let me know that too hehe. I'm not sure if I will get everything I want programmed in, and I apologize if I can't. I guess it doesn't really serve any purpose other than looking good, but aren't good looking desktops the point of this site? Oh yeah, if this violates some kind of site guidelines thing since it deals with modifying AIM, please delete this post. Don't wanna get banned from custo, it's too good of a site ;).
i love how it lists in LIST SETTINGS, an adapter I dont even have lol. Linksys, and Im using a Netgear, well I guess their all the same, XP uses the same UDA for most network adapters since linksys is very default. Okay im babbling. Anyway, awesome program, i hope you're still working on it because i'll definitely be a long time supporter:) Keep up the good work.

Yeah i'm not too sure on the network adapter selecting since I didn't write that part of the program, im using packetx for that. I won't be working on it much for a few days because of a dumb test coming up, but if I get some free time I will try. imtoomuch, did you get the packetx.dll file put in the correct folder? If so, go to this site -> http://www.beesync.com/docs/html/page_howto.html then scroll to the bottom, and hit refresh. It should list the network adapters you can use. See which one gets data. Then select that one in MinAIMal and hit start and it should work. If you aren't getting any drivers listed, try installing winpcap, the link is in an above post.
Alright, the new exe is @ http://filebox.vt.edu/users/msica/MinAIMal.zip Changes: - Now works for AIM 4.x (With or without AIM+ and/or DeadAIM) - Now can set away messages - Can make MinAIMal start when windows starts - Can make MinAIMal open AIM instead of having to manually open it - Fixed the color, and list display bugs - Saves the capture device so you don't have to keep picking it - A few more right click options have been added, all of which work now What is left: - If people really want it I can try to get it to properly shoudl which groups buddies are in, instead of all in one big group - Sometimes it gets confused in AIM 5.x when trying to decide the difference between the buddy list window and away message window since they both have the same class name (nice one AOL), so if the right click options don't work then it is trying to do them to the away message window rather than the buddy list. I will try to find out a better way of differentiating between the two to avoid that. This issue doesn't occur in 4.x though. - Possibly redoing the IM windows and making them customizable
As always if you have any bug reports, comments, questions, etc feel free to post them.
It's still not getting my buddies from my AIM 4.x list onto your program, I'm not sure if it's a problem on my end or what, the only capture device is the NDIS adapter (obviously not it) and a Linksys adapter (I have netgear) which seems to be a generic universal one...I dunno what's going on =(
I think my end is fooked up.

If you go to this site -> http://www.beesync.com/docs/html/page_howto.html then scroll down to the bottom, there is an area where you can test which capture device to use. (hit refresh to list the ones you have, then select one and start, till you get one that finds data). If you find one on this site that works but isn't in MinAIMal let me know and i'll send you an instant message and help you get it working, sorry for the inconvenience.
Ok i tried the new vesion and now the program loads and shows up on my screen, but it wont load my buddy list. I did put packetx in the system32 folder on XP and i did get WinCap. I think I got 3, though. I appreciate your work and appreciate the help too! :) I'm really wanting to use this app.
Yeah, my roommate just tried and had the same problem, I think it might be the way I have it load the capture device to use. I'll try a few things here and see what I can find out.
Doh, I also just realized I had the find away message thing only set up for my screenname. I will fix that too. Looks like I get todays "smooth as sandpaper" award.
Alright, I got the problem with it finding invalid capture devices fixed finally, it was just missing one dumb line of code "PacketXCtrl1.Reset". New Exe is at http://filebox.vt.edu/users/msica/MinAIMal.zip If anyone still has problems with it not picking up buddies after this, I can try to help on AIM. imtoomuch I have you added and will send you an IM when I see you on.
Well my NIC card is showing up now in the list, awesome, but for some stupid reason it's still not listing my buddies. God im casuing so many problems =( Sorry to keep having bad news, or maybe it's just my rig.
