Sennheiser. Top notch, but they'll run you anywhere from $200-$800 depending on the model. Just because the $200 model is their "cheapest" modeldoesn't mean it's lacking in quality (it's got a $200 price tag for a reason). A close friend of mine bought a pair and it's like the music is making love to your ears, they're absolutely incredible headphones.
Sony MDR-V700DJ these rock... a lot of my friends use this for there dj gigs, sound editing, and music production. They're not as expensive as Sennheiser and the quality is awesome. more bam for the buck.
AKG's are good too, i've got K100, which is one of the cheaper models (don't remember the price, probably somewhere around 100e), and they're still very good ! I'de say sennheiser or akg
yeah, the sony mdr's are amazing, I use 'em for djing, music production and editing (for my music technology course) and also when I get recorded playing the drums or guitar. they're awesome/.
i'm getting a pair of mdr's this summer. for now i got a pair of $30 Koss headphones that are OKAY. Great bass (i usually only use em for my mp3cd player) definitely worth $30, but i say get the mdr's.
I use a pair of mdr's on my comp, and sometimes they seem a bit scratchy, of course that could be the shitty bitrate of the mp3's... all in all they seem pretty cool but my friends got a pair of sennhiesers with velvet earcups and I would gladly trade, as the mdr's leather ones get uncomfy after wearing them for a while.
you guys jacked that pants thing from me ...gear :: custo admin...
You've gotta ask yourself what you're going to be using them for, though. For actual recording, yeah, you're going to need to spend some bling. But if you're just looking for something to use when you're listening to CDs and mp3s, high-end studio headphones are a lot like a Ferrari: awesome in theory, but pointless when you can only get it up to 75 MPH on the highway.
If you watch Best Buy ads, sometimes you'll be able to catch a decent pair of Sony's for $25 or so, and that's really all you probably need to get maximum enjoyment out of your music collection.
Also... I wouldn't buy a lower-end set of Koss headphones. I've had the left wire go out on two pairs I've owned (different models) within a month of purchase, and the same thing happened on the pair my sister owned.

Then you should check out the Sony MDR-V150 headphones, they should do it for you. That's what I use for most of my mp3 enjoying, and even some recording. I saw them at Walmart of all places for $20 recently. :)

I should also note that Bose now sells headphones. As an avid fan of their incredible speaker systems and bass-generating technology I can only expect that their headphones are on par with their usual products. Havn't checked them out yet so I can't give any pro's or con's but you're guaranteed to get quality (at a price). Just something to consider.
