who do you think is the best rock band out right now? for what its worth i think system of a down is. my reasons are, they are orignal in that they don't go A B A B like alot of bands songs'. their lyrics are meaningful unlike oh lets say jimmy eat world. and stylistically they do some different things. also any one who likes them should find Snowblind a cover of a blacksabbath song. really good stuff.
Incubus. I'm not wild about all of their stuff, but out of pop-rock (which I'd guess we're discussing), I think they're the best guys out there. Save for their bassist apparently. ;)
I'm not a huge fan of Boyd's singing style, but it gets the job done. Their nonlinear lyrics and intricate guitar arrangements are what sells me on the band.

METALLICA the new album comes out June 10th, plus theyre carrying Linkin Park, Limp Bizkit, Mudvayne, and the Deftones on the Summer Sanitarium 2003 tour. Theyre MTV Icon 2003...i could go on
Theyve been around for a long time....most sum 41 songs are just songs off metallicas first album, but sum 41s lyrics about how theyre girlfriend left them and they want her back..what else? they all play instruments, theyve managed to stay together since '81, the new album sounds like mushugga or something....i dont know...theyre the best
when i would think of the best band....i would put a lot of things into perspective. the singer's voice, lyrics, the bass, the guitar, the drums. Also bands where every single album sounds the same. That means the band didn't grow. Some people say when a band changes it's style, they make a crappy record. It's all art when it comes down to it. Some bands choose to get artsy like radiohead. Some bands like beefy riffs like metallica, some bands just like to groove. Theres so many things to consider. Theres just too many factors to consider for such a bold title.

Mojo, when you've sold millions of albums world wide, you're free to rag on Metallica all you want. Meanwhile, I don't like 'em, but I can tell you they're technically, musically, and lyrically sound. So they don't suck.
And the same can be said for Sum 41. A lot of people don't like their brand of pop-punk, but again, they're technically, musically and lyrically sound. So like it or not, they don't suck.
Whether you like a song or not says more about you than the band who played it.

I don't like their music, but it's all well written and infectious by design. The people who write for pop musicians are typically the best songwriters in the world, so all your post proves is that you're pretty musically ignorant.
Ever stop and wonder why NSYNC outsells your favorite pop-emo band 50-1? Could it be that they can carry a tune? I saw NSYNC and Britney as part of a free concert back before they were famous, actually. Let's see From Autumn to Ashes or Alkaline Trio do one of their song and dance numbers. :P

of course my profile doesn't have enough room for all of the high quality bands i enjoy... some noteworthy bands that i couldn't fit in my profile include: the blood brothers, from autumn to ashes, this day forward, the jazz june, the killing tree, grey am, open hand, everytime i die... and so many more.
there are so many bands that are awesome and are different genres. Like tool and NIN are sweet, Thursday, thrice, Incubus, radiohead, etc. ect. theres way too many.
Even though Megadeth broke up a year or so back, they were undoubtedly the greatest rock band ever. Currently playing, I'm going to have to agree with Corrodiate and say Metallica.
rofl...listening to 'when heaven comes down' (dokken)...yeah, megadeth was probably the best band out there, even though their new stuff sucks, 'rust in peace' makes up for it...
