Im just wondering if anyone plays cs, if you do post interesting stories, and visit my current server ip: 216.235.147.158:27016. My clan, -]sK[- (silent killers) is getting a server soon, and ill post that when we do. I might get kicked out cause im not nearly as good as my clan members but whatever.
the graphics are insanly outdated, the aim is awful, the half life physics suck to begin with and counter strike did nothing to improve on them, and lets not forget about the incrediable number of cheats and newbs that populate every and any public server out there. I just dont like the game and dont see how it draws such a large crowd when games that are actually worth a shit get passed over time and time again....not to mention i suck at counter strike, but that has nothing to do with my opinion on it...seriously...
Penis is as a Penis does, so give my Penis a great big hug
the graphics aren't that bad, they could be better but what do you expect with a 7 year old engine. The aim isn't bad, I think that might be something to do with your skill (no offense). I don't see any problems with the physics (other than the buggy vehicles) and cheats/newbs aren't that bad if you stay on one or two servers and get to know the people there.
cs has stood the hardest test any video game will ever have to undergo. it has passed this test with flying colors also. the test i speak of is of corse, the test of time. players are just as involved, if not more involved with the game now than they were 7 years ago when it hit the shelves. i consider this the mark of a great game. i have never played the game..i'm a natty selection kinda guy :) but any game that has grown this much in popularity in 7 years deserves some applause.. so bugger off hash.
ps: hash:: i also used to think the HL engine sucks (it still does..) but have u played NS? if now, i highley recommend it. it's losely based off starcraft. if u like rts or fps or both, u'll love NS. give it a go. :>
i prefer AAO, americas army operations or UT, unreal tournament and sometimes UT2K3 wich they are all the same engines revamped (that a word?) pretty much. -I Am A Knight Of NI-
mah brother is playing cs right nah, lol... i don't like it, but i can see why others would. i prefer q3 and ut2k3, though as a sniper, i also really like ut. as of nah though, i just play diablo2, thesims, and age of mythology. gonna play a d2 lan game soon...
the aiming system seems to be what most people don't like about the game. its a "cone" system, where the cone gets bigger and bigger as you hold down your shoot button and also as you move around; and as the cone get bigger, the aim gets more off. there are advantages to both the cone system and the unreal "dot" (where you always shoot where the dot is, aim doesn't go off). The cone system takes more skill in aiming (you have to compensate for the cone); the "dot" system makes the game faster and spraying is a lot funner. This is basically how I see both type of games: -cone system: it takes more effort to kill. so you worry a lot more about dying. thats why "camping" is so prolific in a cs game. but because it takes so much effort to kill. but when you do kill someone legit (especially the top player), you get a more sense of accomplishment I guess. And there are also very little luck involved in this system when you pit two experience players against each other. -dot system: games go a lot faster. you worry less about dying, since you respawn immedately. you get to play more, so this maybe more fun for people because you get more playtime. not as much camping. Luck could be a factor in this system.
CS has better quality action. Unreal type games have more quantity action.
the "cone" system is realistic. its used to simulate the actual recoil of the weapon which is what i personally like. it takes far more skill than simply pointing the crosshair at someone and shooting.
The only problem I see with the CS system is that the AWP is way too powerful for a sniper and there is absolutely no lag from trigger press to impact so if you have really good reflexes it's an instant kill. Apart from that I reckon CS is probably the most addictive game I've come across. I don't know about where you people live, but in my suburb (Box Hill, Australia) There are 5 lan cafés in about 2 min walk from each other and on weekends it's hard to find one that's got room. Now if a 7 year old game can fill up 5 lan cafés with about 60 comps each every weekend, then that game has accomplished something.
Just to inform those that aren't too educated on the history of Counter-Strike. So sit down, grab a bag of Dorrito's a soda and enjoy.
Half-Life, developed by Valve (and owned by SIERRA) was officially released in November 1998 and was soon hailed as "Game Of The Year" for it's incredible achievements for a Single-Player achievements. Only after Valve released the HLSDK (Half-Life Software Development Kit) and Team Fortress Classic did the multiplayer community in Half-Life really begin to take off.
On June 18th, 1999 two college students, Minh Lee, and Jess Cliffe (who's previous experiences included Action Quake, and navy SEALS mods for Quake) released "Counter-Strike" for Half-Life. At the time, the mod community was very small, and very few mods offered the versaility and gameplay of Counter-Strike. Through their host on Planet-Halflife, the Counter-Strike "team" (basically Minh "Gooseman" Lee, and Jess "Cliffe" Cliffe and whoever wanted to make maps for it) further the developed the mod to include over 20 different weapons, and several modes of play--ranging from hostage rescue, to assassination (and the unfortunately removed, escape scenarios).
Due to it's distinct mix of realism and fun, Counter-Strike quickly gained popularity and in 2000 "Counter-Strike" was given to Valve (the makers of Half-Life) to develop and release. Currently Counter-Strike is the main "event" at the Cyberathlete Professional League (www.thecpl.com) and since being sold as a separate game, can now be considered the most played MOD and GAME in the world.
So there you have it. A brief history of Counter-Strike in a nutshell. Enjoy and screw Flanders.
awp is cheap if you camp in one or two places the whole game with it....but so is camping in one or two places with ANY weapon. as long as you have decent reflex, aim and you are camping, you can kill anyone with any weapon (maybe not knife).
there are two types of awpers: newbies: camps and kills. pretty simple. their aim aren't the greatest, but the opponent isn't expecting them, so the element of surprise makes up for their bad aim. veterans: rush and kills with awp. they know how to do the shogun/awp thing where you zoom and shoot in one step. when you get into a 1vs1 situation, they do not run around a corner and wait for the opponent to go to them, they go head on.
when an awper is in a 1vs1 situation where the opponent knows where you are and is strafing in a figure 8 pattern with random variations, shooting at you, you will probably get nervous and your aim will go down. you are risking your playtime in the game on 1 or 2 bullets and your nervous aim.
awp is only cheap when you camp with it and the opponent is not expecting you.
Ehw, counnter strike. my friend is obsessed with that game and i can't stand it. the maps are so basic, the graphics are bad and its just all around to easy/repitive. quake(1 or 2) and UT do it for me, those games are a challange and fun to play (quake 1 seems even better to look at then counterstrike).
- rush68 -"Now it’s like I see propaganda from the papers to the books i read and there preparing us for staged terrorist war but my parents ignore it guess the thoughts are imbedded in there heads from TV"-
Try playing UT2003 on anything less than a PIII and a new physical dimension has been created. Just look at those bots teleport! Too bad that don't happen in CS.
oh bah, for 5 years i played q2 and q3 on a p2 233 with a voodoo2 with less then 20 fps, then I upgraded to a p4 1.7 and a gf4 (512 megs of ram, whole nine yards) where I had 150+ fps in q3, and now i am stuck with this shitty nvidia tnt2 card, back to getting 20-50 fps in any game, so I have been on all ends of the graphic spectrum, and cs still blows.
Penis is as a Penis does, so give my Penis a great big hug
CS blows period. It's outdated, boring (even when you kickass) and just annoying to look at that primative engine. People that play CS are those without good enough systems to play UT2k3, RTCW, MOH, or anything else. Maybe if I had my 400mhz Celeron with onboard video I'd play CS again just out of pity hahah.
People like whatever game they want I guess, but when you look at it from an objective point of view, the game just obviously sucks. I think people are just defending the only game they've ever known/played/been interested in.
: Nothing's better than takin a dump and checkin out some uber hardware...well...hacking into microsoft while dropping off the Cosby's might be better :
i just bought a game called DEVASTATION. its pretty cool. just wondering, does anyone else have it. great online player game, but i dont think many people have it yet.
"People that play CS are those without good enough systems to play UT2k3, RTCW, MOH, or anything else" -> Q2 & Q3 is still massively played online, is that too because " all players don't have the hardware to play recent games " ? no. think about all the retro gamers , do they play retro games because they can't afford a new computer/console ? the engine of counter strike is outdated, agreed, and the graphics don't look as good as let's say ut2k3 , but are great graphics are you are looking for in a game? i've been playing cs for 3 years now, i don't care about the outdated graphics or game engine, most cs players don't mind.why? because it's just good fun in it's own way
I played counterstrike for two years with some of the top people in the CPL. I stopped playing after beta 1.0 came out. it got really shitty after beta 7.2 The best part about the game was being unlike all the other players ;).
Generally people who play the game rush to a certain area then move quite cautiously through. The funnest part about this game was jumping into camping traps and blow the fuck out of the newbs who played, then immediately getting accused of cheating. That's actually one of the big reasons why I quit. I've been accused of cheating in that game at least 150 times realistically.
I loved the cone system in that game. You actually had to have skill, and if you wanted to be the best, your first bullet that exitted the chamber had to be a shot to the head.
I look back at it nostalgically, but get real. They made the game rather shitty since back in its roots. albeit there were some improvements, the overall game had lost its ability to wow as much as back in the betas. The model for the Counter-Terrorists owned too :P
Why is it that some people think that for a game to be good, it has to have good graphics. And also that if a game has good graphics, it is therefore good?
Alright maybe I didn't explain too well. Lemme put it this way (maybe easier to understand)
"IN MY OPINION": If I can't stand to even LOOK at the game, It's going to distract me, no matter how good gameplay is. If i see dithered textures in this corner or mis-alligned sprites around that corner, it's going to bother me every second of the game.
My comment about people who have bad systems that they have to play CS was stupid okay I admit that, but it's still my opinion. With games like RTCW and MOH, why would anyone WANT to play CS? I guess it all boils down to personal taste, but I think anyone can admit that there are tons of better and more fun games than CS, that's all I was saying.
Sorry for the blunt comments earlier, but I hope ya get my point now.
I have a top spec PC, Ti4800 etc... and I play CS, I used to play MOHAA:SH loads, until a friend recommended CS to me. I love it and play it more than is healthy.
The otherday I loaded up Mohaa (I used to be an amazing player - without spouting to much, I was top almost every round) anyway, the point is, the game was terrible, it was like writing left handed. Just shows how much better CS is.
After playing CS almost every day for a straight year when 1.0 came out, maybe that's why I got bored and sick of it. ViperGlyph, Ti4800 = Ti4400 with 8X agp i believe. Nothing more, nothing less.

viralhacker a games graphics does not make a good game (look at what happened to the quality of console games when they started only caring about graphics) but theres a difference between pleasing to the eyes or just down right ugly. i still play nes games or the old duke nukem games, they LOOK good. CS is just down right freaky looking the textures are soo horrible the sky map angers me when i see it, they could have just made it simple and enjoyable but insted i get distracted by how ugly the game looks. (also i hate how the game plays, its to easy compaired to others as i said)
The game of Counterstrike is an interesting one. It is a realistic simulation of a terrorist/counter-terrorist combat situation, assuming that real terrorists actually have no intention of carrying out their mission, and instead only want to lure stupid uniformed counterterrorists to various locations and kill them. You see, most terrorists want to blow things up or take civilians hostage in order to scare people, but Counterstrike terrorists are the soft, fuzzy kind of terrorists. They really don’t mind if you walk away with their hostages or defuse all their bombs, just as long as you don’t crouch in one place while you do it.
Gameplay Tips
People still actually play this game. Never camp. 'Camping' refers to the dastardly act of staying in one place for more than ten consecutive milliseconds. Should you stop for a moment, or worse, crouch, you will be labeled a 'fag', your mother a 'whore', and your gun a 'noob cannon'. This includes guarding hostages or bombsites - never consider the possibility that a terrorist might not want his hostages to be rescued. These terrorists do not mind successful rescue attempts by their enemies, due to their previously noted soft, fuzzy nature.
Never buy a good weapon. The AW/M sniper rifle, automatic shotgun, MP5 sub machinegun, and any weapons capable of penetrating skin are shunned by all the skilled Counterstrike players. Attacking your enemy from a distance is cheap, attacking your enemy from behind is cheap, and aiming bullets towards an enemy's head will elicit a collective gasp of horror from the entire CS community and their immediate families. The only way to avoid offending the other players is tossing your starting pistol and charging directly at the enemy with a knife, out in the open, without strafing. Of course, you have to announce your presence to the enemy and attack directly from the front while crouching and spinning around in circles, otherwise it's just cheap.
Never accept the fact that you died. Every death should be accompanied by 'WTF' or 'BS'. This lets the other players know that you are not happy about dying, which will dispel their previous notion that you suddenly renounced your evil terrorist religion and raced out into the line of fire to embrace your new counter-terrorist brothers. Always keep in mind that the game hates you specifically, and that it is completely unrealistic that 7 .50-caliber slugs to the head will kill you or have any effect beyond a slight ringing in your left ear.
Always remember that you HATE Counterstrike. Every time something doesn't go your way, be sure to inform everybody that you hate it with creative phrases like "I hate CS", "Fuck CS" or "I fucking hate CS". But never actually stop playing the game, simply continue to comment on how the game you've been playing for the last four hours sucks because they weakened your favorite rifle.
When joining a server, be sure to pick an intimidating name. Having a name like {SuP4hl33tk1LLa}CaP-a-CoP will scare everybody else into dropping their guns and running away when they see you approaching. Under no circumstances should you use any kind of correct spelling in your name, since doing this would imply that you spent some time learning to speak English instead of playing Counterstrike. You weirdo.
Wow colossus72 that is some funny shit. It is officially on my AIM profile. Unfortunatly, nearly all of you are n00bs. First of all always buy a good gun. M4a1 is my gun of choice, but mp5 is a good backup. As for pistols, i never deagle since theres no bullets even if it is strong. Camping is not when u sit in one place for 10 millasecs its when u sit in one place for EVER. Its gay and the whole fag thing is right.
hey hash why don't you shut the fuck up you wanna be stoner. You obviously are to dumb to figure out that coutner-strike is a game of skill and that the game is set up to be more realistic (in some aspects) you have to burst fire guns not just point and click you fucking nerd. i like coutner-strike a lot an aquire awsome scores :) 5:1 20:1 etc. so shut the fuck up you dont know shit about the game, go play your fucking diddy kong racing and go smoke your shitty weak ass 5% thc hash.
Well as well as being the greatest game in existant it looks like it might also get the prize for "most debated topic resulting in opponent deaths" here on Customize and over this tiny world of us.
