my computer seems to disregard them now. i go into cmd.exe
(window2000)
typein say ping.exe and it won't run. i need to cd winnt\system32
furthermore i checked the environment variables in the sytem properties and Path is there with C:\Winnt\system32 and everything. any idea how i could fix this?

I've not done anymore to it but you could re-add them with my *very* beta app: http://www.david-bell.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/bits/RegRunner.zi

and these vars are a bit more specific... as you probably know. it means ANYTHING in winnt\system32 can be run just by typing in the filename.

you could add c:\\winnt\\system32 into your Path bit in your autoexec.bat. e.g.
Path = C:\\;C:\\Winnt;C:\\Winnt\\System32
I think that syntax is right... been a long time since I used it though.

oh and that app just adds a registry entry that allows you to launch the prog from Run by whatever name you gave it.

i'll try what you said. but since path is already defined i dont see what good it'll do it.
