you have to pay bucks 20 bucks for StyleXP, or install the UXTHEME.DLL patch. but since you asking how to install themes, i wouldn't go for the uxtheme patch, because it might be a little hard.
Don't you just double-click on the theme file, and it will install itself? Then you just simply go to the Display tab in control panel, and go to Appearances or something like that........ or maybe is it Desktop? I'm not sure....
seriously, this is getting to be ridiculous. every day, there is a new topic about how to install something that everyone with half a brain has installed. forgive me if I am no longer being polite, but maybe we need a tutorial/"how to install because I'm a moron" section to help stop Custo being inundated with these threads that are repeating themselves ad nauseam.
Agreed, I try to be nice whenever it comes up but I'm getting fed up of feeding out the same stuff. Most of us found it out for ourselves, I don't see why these people can't.
they used to call him faggot cause they didn't like his hairstyle, he grew up to be a bitter young man. they said 'hey little faggot, we're gonna get your ass in dodge ball', he grew up to be a bitter young man. if they'd called him a brother or a neighbor or a cousin then the world would be less one bitter young man, but they called him little faggot cause they didnt like his hairstyle. he grew up to be a bitter young man.
I'd bet u all became soooooooo well educated in topics like this one by asking the same "how to install because I'm a moron" questions, what if the shoe were on the other foot would u have wanted to be treated the way ur treating ppl when u asked
...i taught myself pretty much everything i know about custo by way of google, tutorials, or just fooling around on my system. im sure im not the only one here that has the brain capacity for at least trying to figure something out on their own before asking about it. besides, if it werent for the fact that two other forums just like this have been posted in the last few days, i probably wouldve helped the guy and then suggested google as a means of finding things out in the future.
It's his first day at custo,do u think he knows whats been posted and whats not,I do agree with u it's important to learn on ur own. But, he could be new to computers, and setting at home in front of his computer going what the hell is a GOOGLE as I was when I first came to custo.I think everyone eventually learns to read a tutorial,or search for answers on there own, sometimes u just need a little positive push in the right direction.
I started playing with the XP themes, thought "oh I'll go see if there's any more", found them, how to install them, and it was only after that I found custo So no, we didn't, we taught ourselves by searching for the information, like I said.
i dont think that would work for a long time, mojo. someone would eventually ask "where do i put patchxp.exe?" or "do i really have to run it to make things work?
Warriorsoul, this is not meant to be a flame-war incitng comment, but if he does not know what the hell a GOOGLE is, I suggest that he learn about computers and the wonderful and exotic World Wide Web before he starts patching his uxtheme.dll. It's not a matter of priorities, it's a matter of common sense. Learn to crawl before you run. Also, can't we just have someone submit the uxtheme.dll patcher file to custo (not to have it rated) but just so that we don't require someone else's site/bandwidth and so we also have the file on hand? redirecting customization newbs to other sites may be more confusing.
no matter what measure is implemented onto customize...you will always have someone who posts
'ok, i downloaded the style, but i can't run them!' or etc.
i guess the cool part about you guys, is that you know your stuff and can then go...
ok, step 1 or, OMGBAGELLAMAFGTNOOBCOCKWTF, GOOGLE search, OMG,
it doesn't take but a couple seconds to direct someone in the right direction, and if you feel that even that miniscule ammount of effort is too much, then just stay away from the topics marked 'help i don't know anything about computers' entirely.
(not meant to bash anyone, just throwing in my 2cents.)
xir0,I dont really like to get into flame-wars, I was just voicing my opinion.I think most of the ppl here are really talented, and skilled at what they do.And I've learned alot from just reading the posts here.My point was that everyone asks a dumb question every now and then, but should u really be made to look stupid for it.What may seem dumb to u might seem really important to someone else.
I think this site takes a bite out of the "survival of the fittest" theory. The reason the site is so good is because people are not afraid to say when someone says/does something stupid, and we also have our helpful side to balance it out, so people don't just think "oh everyone hates me" but get a kick in the right direction too.
If I posted something that seems dumb to others I quite like having an opposing side. Like in my "Rubbish in XP" thread. Hell I don't even agree with myself half the time, and the guy who is probably my best friend I'm always arguing with!
So don't bash the bashers, we like them, they make us better people.
i'm curious why u all are so afraid of bashing... if u think some one is bashing u are u afraid that ur gonna lash out ? it's rather funny...
i mena like how hard is it to just go and be like "yo dude u bashin me? if so why?"
not that hard.. no need to become a politically correct and super paranoid group of people now is it?
and about this whole newb thing...
helping some one out when they ask for it ain't that hard... and after that shuv is made i see no reason why a big debate or argument is needed... i mean how hard is it to say "yo dude check out this site (posted link here) and if that don't work try here (other posted link here)"
most of us have learned on our own.. i myself was lucky enough to learn a bit on my own but just the same i also had alot of help from friends... has no one here ever been givin advise or help what so ever???
people who don't know much about computers need to start some where and i personally don't find it too hard to say to some one that there is a search engine called google.com that allows u to type in a subject and give u a list of possible helpful sites for that individual to check out on his own and learn from...
but then again that's just me...
and judging by most of the posts i've seen here..... most of u seem to be very unhelpful.... and those of u who do help, well, it seems like ur sick of doing it.. do u see it as some kind of duty? or is it just getting boring sayin the same thing over and over?
tis a sad site when people give up on helping just cuase they don't like to repeat themselves.....
I think it's a matter of balance, on one hand you have a site that's welcoming and friendly to all, and on the other a site that's known for being professional. If you're totally helpful to all then the standard of the site falls because people with no clue (and no motivation to get a clue) join.
To be honest I think what we have now is about the right balance.
And yes I see it as a kind of duty because I work on the principal that my being helpful helps make the world a better and more co-operative place. But yes I am human and I do get sick of repetition, although I try not to convey that in my posts. Which is why you'll only see my moaning every so often (like here).
Finally, there's no substitute for learning on your own. I learnt most of what I know about PCs on my own and it's lead to me being far ahead of friends who didn't. Take learning the guitar as an example, you wouldn't moan at a guitar teacher that he couldn't teach you instantly to play Apache, but for some reason people think they can pick up the PC instantly.
in a normal custo day you'll see Hash as about the opposite of me, that's one reason why I like him as a member, while I say "this is how you do it..." he'll bash you for not finding it out yourself, and hopefully motivate you to doing it in future.
All you fellow Customize.org members who saw it fit to throw fire at a newbie to the site, I hope you're glad that he's not been here for at least 54 hours, at the time of this posting. I hope you're glad that there's one less member to contribute in any way to this community.
jrobb16, I hope you return someday and contribute in one way or another, eventually.
All you guys really should put yourself in other people's shoes. You know how to do something? Wow, that's wild, how special for you. You don't see me throwing fire at people who ask simple questions like "How do I compile my kernel in Linux?" It's elementary to me, knowing what options to select and why to select them, knowing all the "secrets" on how to make it better and everything. But to other people, either they don't have the time or are simply new, and I enjoy helping others out. If I do happen upon a question that I don't necessarily feel like answering again (It's amazing that this hasn't happened to me yet, maybe I'm just resistant to getting pissed off for idiotic reasons), I ignore it and move along.
You guys realize how goddamn stupid it would be for me to rag on other people for not knowing what I know? WHAT? YOU CAN'T INSTALL FREEBSD ON YOUR OWN? FUCKING GOOGLE IT YOU MORON DUMBASS! This can be made to apply to anything and it really illustrates the point that unless you were born knowing how to do everything and knowing how to go about doing things (Much less with an Operating System you didn't help create in any way), then you're a hypocritical asshole who only works to drive people away from the community.
If I were still an admin I'd talk to lamplighter about the whole damn thing.
