i use miranda. it's light, fast, and works in a way which is similar to trillian (multiple protocol functionality) check it out.

i use aim because nobody i know uses anything else...

and before mojo gets here ( :P ), miranda im is a pretty nice im client as well. connects to more protocols than trillian, has plugin support, AND has a growing developer/user base.

AIM, but DeadAim is a must if you're going to use it. I've used trillian off and on as well... depends on if i'm in that "everything has to fucking match my fucking theme" mood.
