action-reaction thing

Hero:
-director is known for making controversial movies that the Chinese government usually do not like.
-this movie was heavily supported by the Chinese government. All the troops you saw in the movie are actualy Chinese soldiers. The government lend the directory the troops for the movie.
-Many fans of the director now hates him because they think he sold out to the communist government.
-Mao was a big admirer of Quin.
-The basic analogy you can make here is. People hate the Chinese government. The people hate the Quin emperor. The people dunno that the government is really doing the right thing. The people of the unified Quin country don't know that the Quin emperor is really just wanted to unite the country and get rid of internal war.
-Quin emperor is widely known for his tyrany and cruelty. Most Chinese historians agree that he was just a tyrant and had no intentions of unifying the country.
-the government doesn't think so. they brand him as a hero in the history books.

So overall, you can interpret the movie as very pro-communist government.

aside from the communist propaganda. it was done very well with the themes of color. great camera work in the fights. the fights themselves aren't that spectacular. it was overall a good movie. the effort that was put into the film is what made it great.
-remember the lake scene? they went to a famous lake in China and filmed it there. they could only film 2 hours a day. they had to wait for the lake to calm down after each scene because they wanted a completely flat surface.
-the leaf scene. went to a famous forest. they couldn't take down the leafs on the tree. they had to gather up leafs that were already fallen for that scene. the director even specified what colors the leaf had to be that can be used inthe scene.
