Well, I see a part of this webpage called icons. No program no nothing, just people submitting icons.. What I am wondering is how you people change them, i've used icon packager, i've gone in folder options and tried my patience there. However doing so requires alot of work and hassles and some of the icons i'd like to replace I cannot.
Do you see where I am going with this? Is there a program i'm not finding that you can choose to change the way a specific thing looks? Say, I want my music files to use this icon, I want all of my folders to be this icon etc etc..
hmmm.... could be a few things. My first guess is that your running XP which can be stubborn when it comes to changing icons. As of now I'm back on 2000, so I forget what little I figured out assuming that you are on XP. I would first check out http://www.virtualplastic.net they have great stuff over there (mostly win 2000 and earlier though, but some XP stuff mixed in). I haven't found a perfect solution to XP icons; I think I ended up using a combination of different things. If you do find something that handles XP really well I would appreciate it if you let me know what you find
In the older days, the easy way was to use the shellicon thread in the registry
but if you're in xp, try bee icons, it's the best i have try so far
and not forget to refresh the iconcache and reboot for some such as drive icons for cd/dvds
for some icons, the will be very inconsistent (works one instant but not another) like the open&save dialogs. Office has their open&save dialog under the program's own control not the system, in those case you need chage the resources (icons) in the shell32.dll and other system or program files it's still the only way so far to change the icons on XP startmenu icons in classic mode
