Please don't think me rude, but the idea strikes me as odd... In a time long ago, and a galaxy far away, I grew up very much interested in the MOD/Demoscene... a very common file was the "Trackers Handbook"... In it was a piece of advice aimed at new music trackers, that I think new artists would do well to give thought to... "Don't release your first few tries" Sure, you think they're the hottest sh* since sliced bread, but for most of us (myself included) the first handful of tries at art just lok terrible. Mind you, they are of course necessary steps to learning to make -better- art... but that doesn't necessarily mean that the skinsites should be flooded with hacked up band promo pics turned winamp skins, and such. Anyhow, this rant is done, hopefully more constructively than antagonistically... feel free to comment, and have no qualms about telling me if I'm drastically wrong and I've missed something along the way...
you make a good point, but it's always good to get feedback from people (honest feedback, not your friends telling you it kicks ass) and for people to tell you what you should work on.
i think the reason people do it is because they think their shit is the hottest on the block, but instead they get true honest feedback, which will either help them get better or discourage them altogether. _____________________________
i saw that shirt at tj max (double X) earlier this year.
true true. that reminds me about how i got into customizing windows. when i had my first comp of my own, with 98 on it. i started tearing the wall apart with name of bands and pics of all sorts of shit and the placement of the icons in a certain matter. but that all changed when i found this site. thank you custo
If im not mistaken Zen is a sort of spiritual path followed by an asian cultures, however can be seen practised by a few folks in yuppy starbucks in downtown atlanta.
Penis is as a Penis does, so give my Penis a great big hug
Zen is actually more closely pronounced 'chan'. Zen Masters lived a long time ago , and the culture and ideology began some time ago in china. The zen stressed a lot of self determination, righteousness, and fortitude, to make one strong on the 'path to zen' which for them was 'enlightenment'. You could look at the Zen followers as monks really..although there was some conflict during the time of the zen, it was really popular back then to become a zen follower, but use it to your advantage to become famous, this of course was looked down by the community, and there was a lot of debate as to 'who' we should teach the art to...it really became selective at that point.
Imrik: Zen also can equal what we call "The Zone" in sports, creative highs, and similare things. When we can do amazing things, but with easy and seemingly little effort. To study Zen is to try and be able to go into that state when ever you want.
That's only part of it though. I'm still studying, so could be wrong on some details.
StandAlone: Do you have that handbook? I'd love to read it. 8) Good points, and I have to agree with you.
I think part of the problem is ppl's ego gets in the way of thier eyes, so they can't see the art as it is.
cuttheredwire: Yes, of course. The link is: http://www.united-trackers.org/resources/handbook/ And the point I referenced, which I actually horribly misquoted (though the idea remains the same) is under Beginners -> Releasing...
A student once asked a Zen master, ``What is Zen?'' The master instructed, ``Go ask the wall.'' After awhile the student returned, confounded. ``I don't understand,'' he said. ``Neither do I!'' retorted the master .
When Nansen, an 8th century Chinese master, was asked what is Zen he expressed the impossibility of giving an answer through words in his reply ``Can a cloud in the sky be nailed there, or bound there by a rope?''
