Ok, so if you've read the previous thread I am in the process of purchasing a computer. What are the differences between XP home edition and XP Pro? Is it a big difference? Is it worth the extra money to get Pro?
just a question, didn't you say that your limit was about 500-600 bucks for a pc, with xp pro or home it would be like 700-800 since your "buying" xp or home ;)
testing 1 2 3: saying that something is "teh suck" doesn't mean jackshit if that's your only argument. why do you think home sucks in comparison to pro or 2k? what makes them better? explain.

this is one of the reasons why i like linux/*bsd's so much, i can be perfectly legit as far as software goes, yet i do not have to spend a dime... well, maybe a dime for a cdr... but not nearly as much as windows would cost
...not that i am saying linux or any alt. os is right for everyone, they all have their downsides. i mean, if you are a flash developer, you have basically no choice but to run windows.
The differences from Pro and Home are very miniscule, to the average consumer anyhow.
With XP Pro you can use more processors in one system, while XP Home only supports one (again, not something too many people worry about)
Then you get a whole slew of added security settings, user control, basically more networking goodies and controls than in Home. These are things some of us need, but, if your not on a network in your house and/or you dont need to limit access to any user, than don't worry about it..
Then there's some other stupid differences, and for the 3rd time, not something an average consumer would notice. Google will fill your head with XP Pro vs. Home info if you check it out....
Just hearsay...but I've heard Pro is more stable?? Never used Home edition so I can't vouch for it.
:I'd walk a million miles for your love, I'd walk a million more for that little thing you do with your tongue :
Im not limited to 600, I have 1100... I just wanted to stay close to 600 if I could.
Testing... re-read what I wrote. I want to know what the differences are. If you think one sucks and one is good, tell me why. I dont want to hear fan boy comments, I want fact-based opinions.
the networking is lost, no domain, workgroup size limited. thats pretty bogus. a few keys in the registry are hidden, and portions of the FS. codemonkey has the right idea, if you want to be 100% more hireable, understand computers in general better and not pay a dime, use any version of linux, www.slackware.org is my fav. if you want convenience, get xphome, if you want networking power, xp pro
Jesus Christ . . . he is building a BUSGET system. Networking??? Workgroup size limited?? Who cares? Shit, why are we cooking up this massive debate over Home and Pro? Linux is not an option, for obvious reasons . . . .I mean, come on. Most people have XP home, and I don't really think FF needs all those networking options (if he does, I stand corrected.) So come on, this doesn't require a debate. Neither version "sucks", it's simply that FF can save some money by NOT paying more money for a vesion of XP that has features he likely does not need.

Note: certain people, I'm assuming Lesbians, have sent me hate mail, complaining about my comments. I stand by my comment.
To Lesbians: your misuse of dick items and dick imagery is incongruous with your sexual orientation. You have, in effect, waived your right to dick access, which as a result, precludes you from seeking dick in any form. :-)
FrostedFlames: Look, everoyne here has an opinion, and I'm sure those who are in the XP camp can marshal 500 reasons why you shuold go with XP, and there are those in the Linux camp who can marshal 500 reasons why you should go with Linux. This thread has turned into (inappropriately) an XP vs. Linux debate. You didn't even ask anyone about their opinions of Linux, yet for some strange reason you got them.
My advice: let your own skills take over, get off the custo boards and do your own reasearch over the web. Less confusion.
i was just explaining the difference, what if he had needed the networking ability, fuck me for being so out of line there, i obviously am an asshole for trying to explain pros and cons.
linux came into the debate when price became a factor. if he is strapped for cash, free might be worth getting it to work.
i dont know what the man is going for, i just passed on what i knew. Thanks LTD, i cant believe how out of place i was. ill be sure to assume what he needs, and give a prognosis on what i assume.
I used pro for a year on my old machine. When I seen home edition on my brothers, it still had everything I needed. Could'nt see the difference so I got home edition for my new system. There is no difference either in stability. Hasn't let me down yet!
the computer that im going to be building is a family computer, and the easier for them the better. ctrlaltdel is too complicated for them. i still explain that the big signs at the top of a website "your computer may be infected!" is just an ad, and does not really mean the computer is infected.
