This is the transcript of an actual radio conversation of a US naval ship with Canadian authorities off the coast of Newfoundland in October, 1995.
Radio conversation released by the Chief of Naval Operations on November 10, 1995.
Americans: Please divert your course 15 degrees to the North to avoid a collision.
Canadians: Recommend you divert YOUR course 15 degrees to the South to avoid a collision.
Americans: This is the Captain of a US Navy ship. I say again, divert YOUR course.
Canadians: No. I say again, you divert YOUR course.
Americans: THIS IS THE AIRCRAFT CARRIER USS LINCOLN, THE SECOND LARGEST SHIP IN THE UNITED STATES' ATLANTIC FLEET. WE ARE ACCOMPANIED BY THREE DESTROYERS, THREE CRUISERS, AND NUMEROUS SUPPORT VESSELS. I DEMAND THAT YOU CHANGE YOUR COURSE 15 DEGREES NORTH, THAT'S ONE FIVE DEGREES NORTH, OR COUNTER-MEASURES WILL BE UNDERTAKEN TO ENSURE THE SAFETY OF THIS SHIP.
This is funny as hell, but i'd like your source...
See, I've heard this story before, but the whole "It was stupid arrogant americans and canadians are so down to earth he he he" angle is a new addition (as are the additional ships). I imagine they've been added after the fact. :|
Always heard it in this American vs Canadian version :) Tried to transform it into Swiss vs Lichtenstein situation, and I don't know why, it never worked. Strange...
I for myself am planning to settle the navy of the Grand Duché du Luxembourg, just to prove to the world that it's only a question of Will. And with my mighty Navy we shall go and defeat Andora's ships!
I have only heard it in this version... I dont think it would work backwards...americans being the lighthouse and canadians being the ship..it would be like a fishingboat vs a lighthouse, not a Carrier, or a destroyer, lol
Argh, sorry julius, Kaiser, Kzar, and Tzar come actually from Caesar and means the same thing: emperor. This war thing about Andora make me think about good all Willelm III and Francis-Joseph , Alexander the third and all those magnificent people who made more for modern chirurgy than Ambroise Paré himself. :)
Am I tired?
Well, nevermind, let's take the sea through the campain, corn fields and Massif Central, sus à Andorre, qui m'aime me suive et honni soit qui mal y pense! Nom d'un pétard...
