Does anyone experience this particular problem with I.E. ? :
When a set of IE windows are open, and one of them Hangs (e.g. not responding), and you have to force it to close (either, ctrl-alt-del, or right click) it closes ALL open browsers even if they are working properly?
i googled till it hurt, and didn't feel like troubleshooting MS's databases....i've been dealing with this for awhile, i always figured i could live with it, now i'm just curious to find out if anyone else is experiencing this.

i had this problem on windows 98 se, only difference was that i couldn't right click to close it. Was really annoying and i don't think there is a fix for it
If you mean it closes all open IE windows, that's common. I don't think it's a bug. In my experience, if you simply open a new window from within an IE window, you're creating a new thread. The process ID is still the same, so when you shut down the process you're shutting down all the threads. If you actually restart the program - as in click the icon, type the command or whatever - I haven't noticed the shut down effect. I think from a programming perspective it should shut down all the spawned windows, but ignore other instances of the process.
Hope that makes sense. If you don't want that to happen, try opening IE from the start menu instead of opening a new window.
IE doesn't hang or crash all the time. Most of the time, it's the website. I've seen a good bit of inefficient Java being responsible for many crashes. I use Firebird myself, but I don't complain about IE. Try using Netscape - especially on a Unix system. Talk about a bad browser.
OK, from what I understand, the release of IE 5 removed the option "Launch Browser Window in a New Process." I've read some things that say IE decides whether or not to launch a new process based on available memory. Though there may be a registry option for this somewhere or something, I still think manually opening a new process is the best option.
I use to think IE was the greatest until it stopped working and I was forced to try something else until I got it fixed. Now I am in love with Mozilla Firebird. I definately recommend it.
It's possible to fix that problem. This fix applies not only to IE, but to windows explorer as well. Open an explorer window > go to Tools > Folder Options > Look under the "View" tab > check "Launch folder windows in a seperate process." Should do the trick, although it may only work if you use an explorer window to open a webpage.
Actually, I too have XP pro, and that doesn't generally happen to me. I've noticed that Acrobat 6 has a problem where if you open a link to a pdf file in IE that opens in a new window, the parent window crashes if you close the window with the pdf in it. When this happens to me (quite consistently), it is only that particular window that closes. The others stay open.
