I see it, vector is already going the way of 3D abstract. Soon only the best vector artists will get respect and everyone else will just be "trendy". Eventualy it will just fade out like all other trends.
These things don't die just because you get tired of them. Take away vector and abstract and what are you left with? Single colours? Scans of oil paintings? Do me a favour.
Vector is obviously a trend. There's nothing wrong with it, but in a year or so vector won't be as popular as it is now. Also, like rush said, we'll be left with only the best artists. People now tend to be extremely critical of 3D abstract (and really 3D of any kind), and I can see that happening with vector work.
nothing wrong with vector itself (just like abstract 3d), its up to the artist to make it look nice, different and unique, and there lies the problem. i look forward to the time when only the innovators are left. ----------- buy my stuff, or i'll poke u in the eyes real hard! http://daprints.com/~liqachu
Of course is a trend and of course somewhere in the future the good one will remain and there will be some others that will follow them....
I'm just interested to see what happens next, and I think there is still a lot of room on vector stuff and a lot to do mixing 3D and vector, belive it or not.
true that. not jumping around on anybodies work thatīs where i see the point which makes people thinking like you do native.
the execution is the same with the 3d works. maybe it īs a great exection. but isnīt enough to make it a standout piece. itīs the same as with those shiny tiny milky icon balls. again! i donīt want to bitch around. it looks great. but hell! there are enough of those now! cough..for me.
the point is like with a lot other things. you learn it, see it somewhere else and you recreate it.
okay. if you want to do your job.. thatīs perfect. but if you want what they call standout donīt do that! vector is a lot lot more what you see called vector around here and all the other communities. itīs not only to press p and recreate a person.
but.. like i am always saying. PATIENCE!!!!!!
time.
we forget about that. me in front of the row.
and yes.. i am sick of the word vector. because not everything shining is gold. sorry.. one dumb sentece has to be.
Actually I think that there shouldn't be more Vector in future...we can find it almost everywhere -and that is good- but if there's only vector, it'll be very boring...it would be like abused I think. But I really think that it should become more experienced - so for instance more 3D-ability and things like that.
I think idea is the most important thing, if a design idea requires a realistic 3D to be the object, so be it. The same thing applies to vectorized designs. If it suited the idea, why not?
I think 'trendiness' is not a bad thing, as long as the idea behind it is suitable. What makes vector designs boring is that the same idea kept repeated over and over again, not the vector. Vector is just a technique.
So, props for anything to be original. *thumbs up*
Simple principle: whether 3D, or vector, or minimalist, or your mother's knitting, if it looks GOOD, then acept it and rate it accordingly. Doesn't matter if you've seen the style a thousand times - just worry about THIS particular piece, and what THIS piece means to you.
There is, however, waaaaay too much SHITTY vector work. Badly traced hot chick or car walls, anyone, anyone?
When you finally realize it takes more than a few hours to make something that's worth a fuck, maybe things will get better and you won't have to waste your energy bitching about it on the boards.
Try putting some actual fucking thought into your work, instead of just copying (vector chick walls, yay!).
Imrik does. liqachu does. And that's why they are better than YOU.
Back on topic...I'm not a vector artist. I've tried vector, and I've worked with it somewhat a little bit in the past (for some classes and such) and I can say it may look easy, but it's not. Recreating something complex in a small number of colors is perhaps even more difficult because of the exactness of it. Any pixels that are off become obvious. Any miscolors become obvious. My point is this - even though I don't much care for vector art, I have respect for the art and for the artist.
I don't really think there's too much of it. As the current trend, there's a bit more of it, but that's to be expected. It's not like we're being flooded with vector stuff - partly because vector isn't easy. The problem with 3D abstract is you can make something that looks cool in 30 minutes with Bryce. It may have zero originality, but provided you could get your hands on Bryce, you could do it. With vector (I know colossus hates the cars and women) it's not as easy to produce a relatively 'simple' piece.
I won't play games with who's good and who's not. I don't bother much with vector because it's not my style.
tab is totally dead on. nothing that looks good took a day to make. you think the best walls on custo were made in a day? hell, the best screenshots take a few weeks of work. i spend at least a month on my themes before i publish them for general use and my screenshots are posted only after i've fully tweaked the interface (with the exception of my XO ss)

http://mojomonkee.modblog.com - i may have worn my fubu shirt today... you'll have to read to find out now won't you?
well mojo, it isn't "crap", but rather, a way to maintain objectivity. This is especially important when we get new users who happen to be talented. Of course, they won't be acquainted with the goings on of custo - what we've all seen and haven't seen before. If that new member submits some great vector work - what are you giong to do? Just say "meh . . .it's been played out" and give a rating to reflect that attitude?
This is the real danger of this "played out" label we tend to attach to art. It's not like a movie you've already seen or a book you've read - it's someone's work, and if it's good it doesn't matter if you've seen it before . . . alot of people haven't. You must judge somethig on its own merits, IMHO.
People think because they dl'd a cracked copy of photoshop one day they become a tiny god the next and can upload all the bullshit they puke out for the next ten weeks.
Quality and commitment ARE related. Time = commitment.
anyone can see my attempt on vector......sucked big time, umm yeah. vector is really hard in my oppinion. ill just stick to "acquiring apps to make me look 1337" and leeching all the good stuff off this site and not submitting anything. everyone is happy that way.
When I first realised that there was more you could do with a computer than change your colors, winamp, and wallpaper, sites like custo constantly praised everything 3D. Then, they started getting really hard on everyone that tried it, and in a year it gave way to vector. The exact same thing is happening now. People talk about it the same way and everything. A year from now, vector will be exactly where 3D abstract is now. Something else will come up.
