well one very important aspect of a wallpaper is its functionality.. that is one main factor that differs a wp from any old freehand piece of art.. so if a wallpaper is only made in 800x600, it's not very useful for most users and deserves to lose points because its not adequately serving its purpose as a wp.. thats my 2 cents

i think the more important factor is that whatever people say is meaningless. most reviews are either

"100: ur wallpaper iz blue. i like blu"
or
"0: haha, you suxxor"

so i wouldnt look too long at them in the first place

the art is half of it, and as wraybling said functionality is important.

it's ok to strecth down a 1600x1200 to a 1024x768 desktop - there's no detail loss. no good streching up from a smaller image though.

the only reviews worth paying attention to are the constructive ones, and the complimentary ones of course ;)

it would be interesting to know what admins are thinking when they give a review.you see ALOT of wp\'s getting 85 public ratings and 40 staff ratings and vice versa...i realize that taste in art is very subjective-but when there\'s such a great difference in score-like 40 points or more-maybe the reviewer could make a small comment as to what they saw that noone else did...
