Right off the start, when I opened an IM window i noticed there was a "From:" box which you could change to send IMs from different screen names. I thought, "Wow, Aol's version of DeadAim." However, upon further investigation, i found the screen name linking options which enabled the "From:" box. I put in my girlfriend's screen name and password and, wow, her buddy list came on my buddy list. I then noticed there was a button to make her invisible to other users. Basically, the new version was alright, until i realized something.
I signed back online when she was online. The AOL SYSTEM MSG IM saying we were signed on at other locations came up to both of us, but she ignored it because i showed her the new version and how i could have both of our buddy lists on my one buddy list. The only cool thing I actually noticed was a few weird IMs that popped up.. They were directed to her screen name. I could see what everyone said to her. I just couldn't see what she said to them.
Does anyone like the new version of AIM? I just wanted to share this cool lil spy feature.. lol
It's nice to see that the AIM developers are responding to users' demands. Although they're a little too large for my tastes, I like to new pop-up alerts. The new invisibility option, as well as the ability to sign on with several screen names at once, make the new AIM well worth the download.
However, I'm going to have to stick with Miranda. :)
even after spending a week reshacking aim youll still have huge im windows you cant resize with a rate meter in the bottom right hand of it. go for miranda!
Just in case a few people aren't aware, the option to sign on to the same screen name in multiple places has been in effect for about a month or two,(even when using older versions of AIM, or Miranda/Trillian combo, etc.) i remember getting the message from a user named "AOL System MSG" saying that I was signed onto my screen name in two places, reminding me, that I had left my laptop turned on downstairs and was draining the batteries. So while i was thankful that it reminded me, it does have MANNY bad side affects, such as someone signing onto your name at another location, and you would never know because eventually, AIM stopped sending me the msgs saying I was signed on twice. I like AIM 5.5, i installed it on my mother's computer, and we had good times with some of the games on there, but, I quickly went back to 4.8, simply because I didn't feel like reshacking the shit outta 5.5 :p
:I'd walk a million miles for your love, I'd walk a million more for that little thing you do with your tongue :
